CBS Decides Al and Tipper's Separation is the Fault of....George W. Bush By Brent Baker Created 06/01/2010 - 20:17

Is there anything a journalist cannot or will not twist to bring the topic back to how life would be so much better if only not for that awful George W. Bush? On Tuesday's CBS Evening News, with the help of the Washington Post's Sally Quinn, Sharyl Attkisson managed to blame news, that Al and Tipper Gore are separating, on how they never got over being denied the presidency despite winning the popular vote in 2000. If only Bush hadn't taken it from them.

Attkisson recalled “it's been ten years since that oddly public passionate kiss at the Democratic convention. That was followed by Gore winning the popular vote for President but losing the electoral vote. Family friend Sally Quinn says that may have done the marriage irreparable harm.”

Viewers then head from Quinn, who's married former Post Executive Editor Ben Bradlee and is now titular overseer of the paper's “On Faith [1]” blog: “He obviously suffered a lot and still is suffering. He'll never get over that and neither will she.” (jpg of screen shot [2] of Quinn)

Attkisson cheekily began her story: “While Al Gore was out fighting global warming, his marriage to Tipper was apparently cooling.”

On ABC's World News, Claire Shipman offered a simpler explanation, sans the political grudges: “The Gores have told friends they've simply grown apart. Tipper embracing the perks of a post-political life like grandchildren and travel. The former Vice President relishing his role as an award-winning environmental activist and not eager to slow down.”

I was up uncharacteristically early today and saw the morning show coverage of this story. It’s amazing how they deal with this topic when the subject is a figure they are sympathetic to. Substitute Newt Gingrich, and imagine that the media would quote “anonymous source” “long term friends of the family” “who say there was no affair”. You can’t.

We were joking about this yesterday.

I know I should not be shocked that they actually managed to blame Bush. But I am.

Al probably got around to start blaming her for the loss like he does to everyone else.

If only Tipper was more active campaigning like Michelle then he would have gotten more votes in Florida.

Then he probably compared Tipper against Sarah Palin saying - look at how Palin can raise a family and still network.

Then Tipper threw the stereo at his head while he ran for the door and it was over...

Forty years wasted down the drain.

That was followed by Gore winning the popular vote for President but losing the electoral vote.

If he had only carried his "home" (his real home state is DC) state, Florida wouldn't have mattered.

THANK YOU TENNESSEE.

“Who knew W had such influence on marriages, too.”

According to liberals W was responsible for telling the snake in the Garden of Eden to tempt Adam and Eve...he was handing the Centurians the nails as they hung Christ on the Cross, he the source of all plagues, ills and horrors from time in memoriam.

And the fact that Gore ran a wooden and lifeless campaign means nothing? I still remember Conan doing his “Al Gore Robot” impressions.

The guy lost the vote in his home state for Pete’s sake - when was the last time that happened to a Presidential Candidate??

Teaming up with Bubba’s Bimbo Circus didn’t help either - whose choice was that??

“Gore relishing his role as an award-winning environmental activist and not eager to slow down.”

Al Gore discovered Groupies!!!

However. unlike the king of the groupies, Bill Clinton, Al doesn’t have the ‘skillz’ to stay married while indulging in the lifestyle.
