Asian majority a college crisis?

The University of California (UC) is proposing tinkering with admissions requirements because a large proportion of their students are Asian.

The various school campuses around the Golden State show representation of Asians ranging between 40 and 54 percent of the total number of students while only representing 13 to 14 percent of California's population. So the question is whether standards for admissions ought to be lowered in favor of non-Asians to create more of a balance in the schools' student makeup.

Ward Connerly, founder of the American Civil Rights Institute (ACRI), explains that some administrators say there are just too many Asians and believe that "the only way to curtail that is to raise the standards on Asians and to apply a different standard to them than we apply to – quote – 'underrepresented minorities' who are black, Native American and Hispanic."

Reports that that one of the reasons the number of Asian students exceeds that of other races is because they typically work harder and ultimately attain higher levels of achievement. Connerly contends that their work ethic should not create an issue.

"I subscribe to the view that Ronald Reagan had when he was governor of California, when this same circumstance presented itself at the University of California, namely – quote – 'too many Asians.' Ronald Reagan said, 'I don't care if every seat is held by an Asian if they've earned the right to be there.'"

The ACRI founder goes on to explain that he sees no problem with the Asian student population, but when he asked a UC administrator what was wrong with the school being dominated by Asians, he was told that they are "too dull – they study, study, study."

Add extra points to black’s scores, take them away from Asians, do nothing for whites.

Nah, nothing racist at all.

While were at it, lets make Jews pay more taxes since they have more money! /s

unbelievable!

...unstated in the article...Asians are crowding out Blacks and Hispanics.

....15 years ago my daughter was a college senior and went to the school guidance councelor to ask about going to Harvard Law School...he told her that Harvard could fill every seat, every year with Asians with a perfect 4.0 if they wanted to.

I truly believe that we can solve alot of our problems in this nation if we encourage Asian immigration into this nation.

Get rid of the trash who suck us dry and bring millions of Japanese, Koreans, etc over and we will be back on the path to prosperity.

There was a time in America when this was a good thing. It's the culture that keeps others down. - by design.

One thing about Asians is, they don’t immigrate to the U.S. to be separate from it, but to be part of it.

Unlike some ‘others’ we know of.

Since I am a conservative, that makes me a RACIST.

Given that, I say, KICK OUT THOSE ASIANS and replace them with Whites.

(let’s just see how many others on this site think the same - and then let’s go over to DU and see what they think)

The message is that America does not support achievement anymore.

Stories like this piss me off to no end.

“what message is an Asian family supposed to take away if their child is rejectd at California State Universities because they are too high achieving and dull?”

Obviously, it would be a msg of racial predajuce. But, one thing the article did not make clear is whether the Asians populating California state universitites are Asian Americans or foreign Aians. If foreign, then it’s a different circumstance because even though these foreigners are probably paying out of state tuition they are still not picking up the total cost of the education. So, my two bits would be that foreigners should first,go to the back of the line behind “legal” California residents and then second, “legal” out of state U.S. residents. Just as a side note, as far as I’m concerned the only line “illegals” should be allowed to stand in is the one back to where they came from.

Quote should read....”Ward Connerly, founder of the American Civil Rights Institute (ACRI), explains that some administrators say there are just too many SMART PEOPLE and believe that “the only way to curtail that is to raise the standards on SMART PEOPLE and to apply a different standard to them than we apply to – quote – ‘underrepresented minorities’ who are black, Native American and Hispanic.”

Yeah, lets get those smart kids out of college - make room for more community organizers.

Alabama A&M is about 93% "black, non-hispanic" and 0.3% hispanic.

Where is the outrage?

If Asians are getting the best grades then Asians should be getting the most spots.

I know! I have Asian neighbors, small businesses near me etc, and they are all in on America.

If we could deport all the illegals and bums and replace them with Koreans, Japanese, etc we would truly be on the road to prosperity again.

I would send planes, tankers, cruise ships, barges, etc, and pay those people to emigrate here.

They commit almost no crime, work hard, NEVER complain, assimiliate, are usually soft people.

None because you probably could get in without being able to read and non non-black with better prospects wants to go there. Same with most public black schools. The ones in North Carolina aren’t as good as a good high school. Heck i’m sure some middle school classes at the best private schools are harder.

For what it's worth, we are kicking their butts for the same reason. I know a few dozen who could put Bobby Jindal on the short bus but academics tend to sequester them. There is also a perception of a racism that may or may not be there that causes them to self-isolate.

They are not taking full advantage of the American system. We want them out and mixing in the mainstream. What we are looking for is to add a dynamism that will allow the meritocracy to recognize them. They are sorely needed.

We don't want to sacrifice academics. We want to suppliment it. When these kids realize that they can lead, it's pedal to the metal for the American Dream.
