Death threats, spying and vote-buying accusations are all included in the nearly 1,600 pages of just-released FBI documents into the life of the late Jesse Helms.

The WRAL Investigates team filed a Freedom of Information Act request last year to get the files on North Carolina's longest-serving senator. Helms died on July 4, 2008, at 86 after years of declining health.

The documents show the former five-term U.S. senator had plenty of enemies and that he thought his own government was one of them...

WRAL is on the excerpt-only list.

I had the honor of meeting Senator Helms while at a campaign event in September of 2004. Unfortunately, at that time, he was already in severly declining health. It was clear, however, that his passion for the conservative cause had not dimmed one iota.

I think he was an honorable, Christian man with the soul of a warrior. I wish we had many more like him today!

Red Ted Kennedy conspired with the Soviets to thwart Ronald Reagan's policies.

Absolutely he did.

How that murderous, besotted joke of a man was never jailed for it is amazing...but then again, he got away with killing a woman, didn’t he.

I wonder if the FBI has a file on the Marxist Obama and his many radical associations?

Why is the FBI releasing files on Jesse Helms?

I’ll happily double-down on your comments-Jesse Helms was a great American and had the country’s best interest in mind and heart.

Quote from article:

I don't know why WRAL was after these. Senator Helms used to do the political commentary for the station, before he was elected.
According to the article, he was also "executive vice president, vice chairman of the board and assistant CEO of Capitol Broadcasting Company, the parent company of WRAL-TV and WRAL.com."

So do I, Deb.

I am a big guy, 6'3" and 230-odd pounds, but I am not ashamed to admit that I shed a tear the day he announced he would not run for reelection. :(

Jesse was a true Conservative and there is none like him in the Senate today. He was unabashedly a social Conservative who told it like it was without fear of the pc demagogues.

It is very interesting how the Marxists threatened to kill him.

I was devastated too, but I knew he must have been in really bad health to not run. On crutches, on walkers and in wheelchairs he was there! Quite an American hero!

“Why is the FBI releasing files on Jesse Helms?”

And did they give his family the same “respect” they gave the Kennedy klan.

The one thing I always remember about Senator Helms was that he got passed legislation to defund part of the US contribution to the United Nations....for the UN funding of the North American Man-Boy Love Association (NAMBLA)

You know the Liberal Globalists hated Helms after that....but he was the only one to step up and do something about the UN funding a Pedophile group.

As chair of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee....he did a lot to keep the Liberal Globalists and Communists in both parties from surrendering US soverignty to the UN and other anti-American Globalist groups

Interesting, but not surprising. He was the mortal enemy of many a freedom-hater.
