Special Address to the Nation by The President Lee Myung-bak(Speech on Cheonan and North Korea)
Cheong Da We ^ | 5/24/2010 | Cheong Da We

Posted on 05/24/2010 1:46:42 AM PDT by ErnstStavroBlofeld

Fellow Koreans,

I am standing here today, keenly aware that the Korean Peninsula is facing a critical turning point.

My fellow citizens,

The Cheonan was sunk by a surprise North Korean torpedo attack. Again, the perpetrator was North Korea. Their attack came at a time when the people of the Republic of Korea were enjoying their well-earned rest after a hard day’s work. Once again, North Korea violently shattered our peace.

The sinking of the Cheonan constitutes a military provocation against the Republic of Korea by North Korea.

Since the end of the Korean War, the North has perpetrated incessant armed provocations against us, including the bombing attack against the presidential delegation at the Aung San Martyr’s Mausoleum in Myanmar and the bombing in midair of Korean Air Flight 858. The North Koreans, however, have never officially admitted the crimes they committed. This time is no different. They continue to insist that my Government fabricated the sinking of the Cheonan.

I am not surprised by such North Korean behavior and this was the reason why I emphasized, from the very beginning, the importance of conducting a thorough and objective scientific investigation into the incident. I also asked the nation to exercise patience and self-restraint. It was important for us not to come to any hasty conclusion until the results of the investigation came out.

Finally, on May 20th, the international joint investigation group released their conclusive findings, backed by definitive evidences. With the release of the final report, no responsible country in the international community will be able to deny the fact that the Cheonan was sunk by North Korea.

Fellow citizens,

Let's not forget Clinton and Albright’s role in allowing North Korea to continue it's ways, and to develop nukes as well.

That’s a pretty seriously worded shot across the NK bow. Too bad it will probably fail to lead to any real change in the situation.

I agree...

But this speech was wayyyyyyy too long...

I almost thought he was going to mention something about the climate, and the need for everyone to take responsibility for it blah blah blah...

I have to wonder when Obama will mention the need to withdraw all US combat forces from the pennisula now...We’ve been there wayyyyy too long...Right??? /sarc

And leaving this incident in the hands of the U.N.??? hehehe, Kimchee ferments faster than anything the those knuckleheads will do about this...

We have been pretty much left with the proverbial, “Nothing to see here people, move along...Move along!”

We had to have known this was going to be the outcome, regardless of what we eventually found out and knew to be the truth all along...

Who can forget Madam Madeline sucking up to Kim Jung (mentally) ill in North Korea?

Our reps should never travel to the despots home turf, rather (if at all) agree to meet on neutral territory.

Hey Dumbo! How bout a press conference condemning this act of war? Or would that cost you your lifetime membership in “Weaklings R Us”?

Ahhh c'mon folks, this speech by the South Korean President is nothing but sabre rattling rhetoric, there is no threat from North Korea, have we forgotten so soon how former President George W. Bush convinced Pyongyang to enter the famous "Six Party Talks" with it's neighbors, a negotiated solution to the North's nuclear program was agreed to, the IAEA supervised the dismantling of North Korea's nuclear facilities, tensions were all but eliminated between the North and South, and the Dear Leader Kim Jong Il now hands out little flowers to all the children visiting North Korea as a token of his deep desire for peace, all I can say is "thank God George W. Bush helped eliminate this leg of the 'Axis of Evil'.

And did you hear? In Iran, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad will be hosting a regional "Sing Along With Mahmoud" folk music festival, to celebrate THEIR renunciation of nuclear weapons and establishing good neighborly relations with Israel!

Why, peace is breakin' out all OVER!

LOL. Sunshine Condi and Kim Jong-Hill worked hard to make it happen. Give them credits, too.:-) Especially unfreezing NK regime's bank account in the deluded hope that N. Korea would reciprocate in kind.

It is a threat to national security that such people are at high-level decision-making positions. Of course, there are lot more like them on Dem side, and at CFR. It took two nuke test and a few long-range missile tests to drive the point home through their thick skull.

Sunshine Condi and Kim Jong-Hill

LOL, that's the Piano-playing Sunshine Condi! And who will ever forget Comrade Kim Jong-Hill (aka Christopher Hill for the uninformed).

North Korea had no better middle echelon State Department friend since Alger Hiss was working for HIS Communist masters!
