Very last paragraph, in case any FReepers wish to attend and offer their opinions on the building of this mega mosque 600 feet from Ground Zero.

Saudi money will gladly fund a mosque almost anywhere, but they won’t allow freedom of worship or a non-muslim place of worship to be built in SA.

This is the first I have heard the name is Cordoba House. That shows to me this is meant to be a provocation.

There is also another mosque being planned for this block. Cordoba House is set to be erected at 45 Park Pl. while a smaller mosque is being planned for 23 Park Pl. to replace the one that was on Warren St.

We can ask the UN. They are helping pay for this outrage.

I will be looking forward to your after-action report! But be safe, there’s sure to be supporters there, and they LOVE burning cars, beating up people, etc. for ‘profaning’ Islam by objecting to even the tiniest portions of it!!
Just ask France and Spain.

The leaders can deny it all they want to but if it is built, the Cordoba House mosque will become (unofficially, of course) the Memorial Mosque of the 9/11 Martyrs. Fundamentalist Muslims will come from all over the world on pilgrimages to pray at the mosque closest to where the noble jihads confronted the American Satan. That is the provocation contained in building it and that is why it should not be allowed.
As I understand it, the smaller mosque actually replaces a one that has been near the WTC site for some 25 years or so. There were probably Muslim office and service workers who died in the Twin Towers that prayed at that mosque. Allowing that facility to be renewed is a lot different from the Cordoba House initiative.

Check this out: a Muslims-only community in Philly funded with $1.6 billion of your tax dollars.
To: CaptainK
Be prepared for a long evening, as many people will want to speak. Community Board 1 is better than most, but you will have the other side there with bells on.
By the way, community boards have no power. They just issue a recommendation. I would suggest joining with the groups who are fighting this.
To: firebrand
In a culture war, you have to fight back.
No mosques should be built in the West until an equivalent number of churches/synagogues can be built in countries ruled by a muslim majority.
(Or, at the very least, the ones already there must be allowed to be repaired; and protected.)
To: CondorFlight
Yes, I know you have to fight back. That is why I suggested joining with groups who are really fighting. The community boards are a way for people to feel like they are fighting something when they really aren’t. Still, it is worthwhile to go to their meetings, pick up the literature, and get a feeling for the two sides. Just don’t feel that you have accomplished anything if the community board votes no on the mosque.
