At the Epiphany Church about 7 a.m. this morning, only poll workers were moving about in front of the church's basement entrance. Along the iron fence at the entrance of the Pittsburgh polling place, only two campaign signs hang, one for Democratic State Representative Jake Wheatley and one for his challenger Tonya Payne.
As a few drops of rain began to fall, voters began to trickle in. Minnie Muldrow of the Hill District was the first.
"I try to keep voting, though it doesn't seem to make a difference to me," Muldrow said. "I just go with the flow."
In Kennedy, only five of the 5,700 voters registered at the township's fire hall had voted by 7:30 a.m.
Mel Weinstein, 72, of Kennedy oversaw the operations and said that though Allegheny County projects a 22 to 23 percent voter turnout, Kennedy likely will see 30 percent, as the township "(holds) its own."

To quote Sarah Palin, only dead fish go with the flow.
Unfortunately, we have a lot of dead fish on the voting rolls of our Commonwealth.
It would not surprise me to see 80-90% turnout in - “ahem” -selected core Democrat districts when all is said and done, regardless less that 20-30% of actual voters appear at the polls.
Here’s hoping for a Specter loss. I want this man out of politics. Of course, then again, he could go independent..........
If your down ticket ‘write-ins’ are registered Republicans, it would be a split ticket and thrown out in most states.
Does PA allow split tickets in a primary??
Lord knows he switches parties at the toss of a hat....
I dont think Specter can run as an independent after losing a primary. IIRC, I think that is why he changed parties last year.
“I try to keep voting, though it doesn’t seem to make a difference to me,” Muldrow said.
Sadly this seems to increasingly be the case. The vast majority of Americans were strongly against ObamaCare yet that is now the law of the land thanks to our elected officials. Easy to understand how many citizens can begin to belive their voice and their vote is meaningless.
The best I know PA is a closed primary.
I haven’t voted yet but I don’t think there will be a much of a line at the polls when I get there after work. Outside of PA-12 (which I’m not in) there isn’t too much of a contest on the Republican side.
He won't go independent, specter is a machine politician. He has switched machines twice, that is a coward, if he loses today, he will slink off.
I hope that he loses.
If we don’t get it done in 2010, our vote will be irrelevant. Too early to give up on the country that gave use liberty.
I was #3 at my polling place today. Rain won’t stop my town...Although midterms are lighter than 4 years, the motivated voters will make it. Naturally, that’s the early report...but I saw many getting out oof their cars when I was leaving the church at 7:30...
Really dig watching ‘Flo’ in those Progressive commercials.
Her facial expressions are priceless.....
Whatever party you vote for in a primary, you can only vote for candidates in that one party.
Split tickets are a-ok in the general election but a no-no in a primary.
I voted this morning around 7:30am. My precinct is split about 50/50 but I was told that Republican turnout was much higher than Democrat. It’s been raining all morning so I would be surprised if we had 40% turnout. Put my vote in for Sam Rohrer for Gov. and Toomey for senate...
Johnstown weather (Critz’s home base) is cloudy with intermittent showers for the balance of the day — rain by 6 pm.
Low overall turnout of high-intensity voters should benefit Burns.
Anybody know what time the polls close in PA? My recollection is 8 pm.
Last year, this is exactly what the teacher's union did in our district to deny the citizen's a choice in the general election. They made one miscalculation, however-- one of their choices was a federal employee later deemed ineligible for the office. The local RAT machine, of course, put another rubberstamp on the ballot for November but the GOP balked and put on their next highest vote getter who was from the anti-union slate. He won the seat in November but so, unfortunately, did the three uncontested union rubberstamps.
Back in 2006, Ed Rendell was so unpopular in our county that Lynn Swann got several hundred write-in votes for the Democrat primary even though he was the GOP candidate. When the results were reported, the local RAT machine actually whined that such voters were telegraphing such hostility to the Rendell administration that we might miss out on our share of pork.
So it is actually a fairly common technique to give the middle finger to Harrisburg and Washington.
AZ. McCain is relying on Indy crossover votes to beat JD Hayworth in the August Primary.
