There's only one reason the NYT broke this story at this time and it isn't because they give a rip about some liberal lying.

...and fly in the face of Blumenthal's public image.

Actually they don't. Those of us who have been living in CT know he's a fraud.

“a coward” and “a liar”

In other words, a Democrat politician. Not much of a revelation.

For some reason I thought this was past the primary stage. Unfortunately, it isn’t...
If it was, the GOP would have a chance to win. But, the other Dem will win instead and coast to victory.

I don’t know why Freepers were excited about this yesterday...

It just means the other Dem will win!

I hope that Alpert sics the entire Tijuana Brass on Blumenthal. : )

And if Blumenthal’s lies won’t convince Republicans that our best chance to defeat Blumenthal is to nominate former Congressman Rob Simmns, a Vietnam veteran who served in the CIA for years and has impecable national-security credentials, I don’t know what will.

Rob Simmons can win this election.

According to this article at The Day (New London, CT) newspaper (http://www.theday.com/article/20100512/NWS05/305129915/-1/NWS), the CT Democrats have their nominating convention scheduled for Friday of this week. The odds were that Blumenthal would have been the easy nominee coming out of that convention, and a primary would only be necessary if some other candidate came up with 15 percent or more of the vote.

In typical open and ethical Democrat fashion (snort!), the state party's "central committee" has evidently been working overtime to prevent Alpert from speaking at the convention.

So, was the NY Times article timing chosen to influence the Demo/Commie convention and give Alpert a chance at getting that 15 percent in order to force a primary? Will the Demothugs circle their wagons and nominate Blumenthal anyway?

If I'm understanding it correctly, the article in The Day also says that Alpert refers to Blumenthal as "chicken Dick" (I love it, LOL!)...

"As a citizen and as candidate, it's shocking to see someone who has tried to craft this image of themselves as a fighter, as someone who is willing to always step up and tell the truth, to see him lie about serving in Vietnam,'' Alpert said during a brief phone conversation tonight.

"He was a coward to go and get five deferments and he's clearly a liar for standing up for his own political benefit years later...It's disgraceful behavior from someone who is clearly not qualified to serve in the U.S. Senate."

I hope the pubbies running for this Senate seat have this on tape. Would make a good campaign add if Blumenthal wins. I don't have a problem with deferrments as long as they are legitimately going to college. Someone should investigate how he got in the Marine reserves though if they were that coveted a spot (as the article claims) in 1970.

Why would you even do that in 1970 anyways? Major ground forces were being pulled out of Viet Nam by 1969. By 1971 (which is probably when he would have graduated boot camp and a school) it was a flyboy's war so unless you were on a flight crew or a pilot, not a lot of danger by then. Sure, there was still some ground combat participation by us going on, but not much. If he was that afraid of going into combat he sure didn't read which way the wind was blowing in 1970

just saw him on fox giving a press conference and he had the gaul to hold it at the VFW, he is no vet of a foreign war and why the hell are those idiots behind him?

Are they this stupid or are they going to get a big pay off if he wins because it is blatantly easy to see he is lying through his teeth.

It would be nice if people could actually think and say they made a mistake and will now switch their vote instead of standing there shouting for him against reporters

What’s the difference between Blumenthal and Jane Fonda?

Jane actually went to Vietnam.
