Supposedly Deakin’s campaign said he submitted enough signatures to qualify for the ballot. Deakin should be allowed to any debate for the seat.

Let me get this straight... McCain refused to debate Hayworth??? Why????

I think it's because Juan is being such a total hypocrite and liar on the border issue, going from one of the biggest amnesty advocates in the country to pretending that he's now all for tough border enforcement and won't even talk about amnesty.

JD could nail him to the wall in public on that and other issues if they debated. That's why Juan won't debate unless he later calculates that his refusal to debate is hurting him worse than a debate would.

Not unless the opinion polls show he has some decent level of support. It's become common practice to exclude minor candidates who only have support in the single digits from most debates. It's a waste of time to allow people in who have no support, and no chance of winning.

Why not? It worked at CPAC in 2008.

Yes, it sure is. Democracy gives the vote to citizens of the required age, and it also requires that candidates win the approval and support of the voters. If a candidate doesn't have some minimal level of support when they qualify to be on a ballot, they shouldn't be treated as if they actually have significant support among the voters when it comes to debates and media coverage.

Do you also think all candidates should receive the same amount of media coverage? Maybe laws to require that?

Cowardly?

Nah, refusing to debate is the smartest thing he’s done since accidentally bringing Palin on board.

The trailing or weaker candidate is always the one demanding debates. The leading candidate has little to gain and everything to lose.

And in McCain's case, a record he's running from like a scalded dog. And he sure doesn't want a public debate with radio and TV coverage where a strong challenger would point out his long list of flip/flops and election year conversions and attacks of amnesia.

And I'd say McCain is definitely a political coward. Debates between the leading candidates have become pretty standard part of the political scene for statewide and nationwide races. McCain is hiding from his record, and doesn't want it discussed before a large, statewide audience.

If I could go to one of those ‘town hall’ meetings I’d bring a pair of flip-flops with me and bang ‘em together at all of McLame’s applause lines.

I doubt McCain is ashamed of his record nor is he hiding from it.

IMO he’s playing strategy, nothing more, nothing less.

I wouldn’t expect any candidate with a 20 point lead to accept a debate, let alone one with a slim lead and facing a lot of anti incumbent sentiment.

Of course the challenger calls it cowardice...until he’s the entrenched incumbent! LOL

“I doubt McCain is ashamed of his record nor is he hiding from it.”

I never said he’s ashamed of it. He might be (privately) proud of it, but he’s definitely hiding from it. He’s so serious about hiding from it that he’s abandoning much of it and doing a major flip/flop and pretending to be for tough border enforcement.

He’s actually trying to make much of his past record on immigration disappear from the voters. And that’s why he’s a coward and refuses to debate JD so far. JD will bring his record out into the open before a major audience of the voters.

Oh YES HE IS! That's why he's doing a flip flop.

with a 20 point lead

Keep it honest! YOU know John's does NOT lead JD by 20. Why the need to exaggerate and John is hiding from JD?

GO JD - The spin is in so YOU WIN!
