I know a lot of Bible thumping, gun-toting, right-wing Freepers are going to cheer this as s step in the right direction but, does anyone realize how fast this can be turned against US citizens.

Sorry, just contemplating the day when there aren't any more "evil messicans" to worry about and DHS needs to keep it's "highly trained" donut-munchers employed.

I hear you.

This is not the way to secure the border. Put up double fences and patrol between them. This is what the Israelis do and it works just fine.

Well, this Bible thumping, gun-toting, right-wing Freeper ain't happy one bit. All is needed is to use what we already have, to solve this problem. Of course the great O wants more flashy surveillance and control.

Have you ever seen a dumber administration than Obama’s?

Carter and Clinton were bad; but this guy can’t even compete against a box of rocks.

Spare no expense!

Anything to avoid, simply building the fence.

UAVs, High Tech fences, national IDs, etc are all being pushed just because we simply aren't enforcing our immigrations laws.

Deport illegal aliens when detected, severally fine employers of illegals, don't count illegals when apportioning Federal funds/congressional seats and prosecute “sanctuary city” promoters for conspiracy to commit illegal immigrating. Piece of cake fix and no intrusion into legitimate resident's/citizen's liberties.

At that point, Border Patrol agents could be dispatched, according to Customs and Border Protection.

I am willing to bet that not a single Border Patrol agent goes out on anything more than a enforcement publicity stunt.

This is an incredible waste of money and military resources when a simple fence would be enormously more effective at actually stopping a large fraction of border-jumpers.

Defense in depth: put up a large, double fence. Yes, some enterprising criminal might put a hole in it, but the large majority of casual border-jumpers are going to be deterred. The occasional maintenance of fixing holes in a physical fence running 1000 miles is a lot less than trying to pay for enough UAVs to comprehensively watch that same 1000 miles.

No one is going to be deterred by a stupid UAV that they won't even see. The administration will not actually act on any detection that they do make. This is pointless and wasteful.
