...A man suspected in a weekend hit-and-run crash that injured two female pedestrians near downtown Los Angeles was in custody Tuesday and police urged possible witnesses to come forward.

Mynor Antonio Rodriguez, 44, of Los Angeles, was booked on suspicion of felony hit-and-run following his arrest Monday, LAPD Officer Gregory Baek said. Bail was set at $50,000 and Rodriguez could face up to five years in prison, if convicted.

The women were hit by an SUV at around 1:40 a.m. Sunday as they crossed West 3rd Street at Boylston Street, Baek said. Police say one of the women suffered a fractured leg and the other a broken kneecap, CBS 2/KCAL 9's Kara Finnstrom reported.

Detectives say Rodriguez actually confessed, saying that he fled because of concerns about his immigration status, Finnstrom reported.

There is nothing unusual about hit-and-run in L.A. nor that an illegal is the perp.

What is noteworthy is that he blames running from the scene on fear of disclosing his illegal status. This will be called the "Arizona defense."

You are absolutely on-the-mark with your assertion on illegal status.
Yeah, as if this dirtbag would have otherwise stuck around for police and paramedics to arrive.
Get legal or get out...is what I say.

Why the hell wasn't he also booked on suspicion of felony illegal immigration status?

“Why the hell wasn’t he also booked on suspicion of felony illegal immigration status?”

Hey, just another day of ILLEGALS doing the work US citizens don’t want to do.

$50,000 bail and one of the women is critically injured with a broken neck and broken leg and who knows what else. She will be disabled for life. He could have killed her.

Um, because that’s not a felony?

Just guessing.

Ping!

The ‘Arizona Defense’ is a scary proposition...because it’s liable to actually work, given the right judge and jury.

An employer finally got nailed!

It’s prison for harboring illegal immigrant killer

05/10/2010

Associated Press

A landscape business owner has been sentenced in Houston to three months in prison for harboring an illegal immigrant convicted of fatally shooting a Houston police officer in 2006.

Robert Lane Camp’s had pleaded guilty in October to encouraging Juan Leonard Quintero-Perez to enter and live in the United States unlawfully by employing him at Camp Landscaping in the Houston suburb of Deer Park.

Quintero-Perez was driving one of the company’s trucks when Houston police Officer Rodney Johnson pulled him over during a routine traffic stop in September 2006. Quintero-Perez was convicted of capital murder in Johnson’s shooting and sentenced in 2008 to life in prison.
