“We will have to act as our forefathers did when they met pirates”, the Russian president said.”

Sure, the Russians wouldn’t release the pirates without their chum.

Of course, we could never get away with this. The whole world would be crying and screaming and have to start turning away all of the money we send all over the place. /s

I am given to understand that the Russians gave the pirates a perfectly good boat, with one day's provisions for all, a small sail, and one oar.
They also provided them with a plaque upon which was written, "Молитесь за ветра, но сохранить гребли к берегу." ("Pray for wind, but keep rowing to shore.")
Maybe they couldn't read Russian??

Hard to row 300 miles with no water. Especially if you tell them that shore is thattaway, and then point in the opposite direction. Hope is was a slow, lingering death for them.

"Wheres the love?" I think it's touching that even in this modern era, Putin's boys are willing to keep alive the best ancient traditions of Russo-Islamic relations...

Is this the same flag used by the White movement during Russia’s Civil War?
To: apocalypto
No, that’s the historic Russian flag, used in one or another form from the 1600s up to the communist revolution, then restored with the collapse of the USSR.

We should do the same instead of giving the pirates rights they do not have.

“The pirates will think twice about attacking any Russian flagged ship. Believe me.”
.
I believe you!
That still leaves them with at least a dozen other countries ships to pick on, the U.S. included.
Obummer sure doesn’t have the cojones to deal with them so effectively.

I guess with all that money the shipping co’s have been paying the pirates, they are still not getting any food! They have pencils for legs!

Good Observation:
I dont think the pirate under the razor wire made it back to the boat.
death of 10 pirates released
Including him, I do count 11 heads in custody in the picture.

I wonder if the Russians removed the zip-tie restraints from the pirates’ hands before loading them onto the boat?

I wonder if the Russians removed the zip-tie restraints from the pirates hands before loading them onto the boat?Of course not!!! In point of fact, they linked all the zip-ties together. They were trying to encourage a sense of teamwork and solidarity in the pirates.
Wonder if it worked??

“I guess theres no international guidelines for releasing them either huh?”
Who knew Russians were basically dry fly fishermen at heart?
They were practicing “catch and Release”. And, they didn’t even use a net to avoid any disturbance to the slime layer of their catch.
