Mr Obama, who often chides journalists and cable news outlets for obsessing on superficial coverage rather than serious issues, told a class of graduating university students that education was the key to progress.

"You're coming of age in a 24/7 media environment that bombards us with all kinds of content and exposes us to all kinds of arguments, some of which don't always rank all that high on the truth meter," Mr Obama said at Hampton University, Virginia.

"With iPods and iPads and Xboxes and PlayStations, - none of which I know how to work - information becomes a distraction, a diversion, a form of entertainment, rather than a tool of empowerment, rather than the means of emancipation," Obama said.

He bemoaned the fact that "some of the craziest claims can quickly claim traction," in the clamour of certain blogs and talk radio outlets.

Hmmmmmmm, looks like B.O.'s gift to Queen Elizabeth was intended to be an even larger insult than we first realized.

Well, I'm inspired, as always, by the positive, uplifting B.O. rhetoric.

Notice how “Progressives” all demand we “embrace diversity” until it involves diversity of information, then they want strict government control.

This at a commencement address. He wants to convince the young to voluntarily give up their access to information of their choice.

These people like Obozo are as evil as they come. Shame a college education has become a joke. College is merely an indoctrination exercise. It no longer is higher education. Freedom of thought is going to be a thing of the past.

Guess he forgot that there are pictures of him with his iPod.

Guess he forgot that his campaign placed ads on video games during the 2008 campaign encouraging young people to vote for him.

Hell, I'm 52 and know how to use all of them. What's his problem?

“a tool of empowerment, rather than the means of emancipation”

He should be careful how he encourages us. We may decide we are empowered to keep what is ours, and to throw off the chains of tyrants like him.

some of the craziest claims can quickly claim traction,

You mean like the ones your administration is peddling? For example, that government-run health care will be cheaper and better than the current system?

Mr obama, who often chides journalists and cable news outlets for obsessing on superficial coverage rather than serious issues...

Hey, we agree on something. Now, if we agreed on what "superficial coverage" itself is...

...bombards us with all kinds of content and exposes us to all kinds of arguments, some of which don't always rank all that high on the truth meter...

True, but, that's what it means to live in a free society.

...information becomes a distraction, a diversion, a form of entertainment, rather than a tool of empowerment, rather than the means of emancipation," obama said.

Implying people should be deliberately ignorant? Just take what we process and feed you as the official party line? No thanks obama.

Funny, or at least ironic, that obama should talk about emancipation when his administration has just engineered one of, if not the largest increase in government control over our very lives. Then again, lying comes easy to obama.

He bemoaned the fact that "some of the craziest claims can quickly claim traction," in the clamour of certain blogs and talk radio outlets.

That is just plain bad speech writing, or maybe he just delivered it incorrectly. "...claims can quickly claim..." over-uses "claim"... Should have been "claims can quickly gain traction" -- gaining traction is the common phrase obama. Nice backhanded slap at talk radio and the internet - some of the last places you cannot control the message to your intentionally ignorant masses.

What an arrogant ass! Man has always used information for entertainment, among other things, from cave drawings to the recitation of epic poems. It is also a tool: knowledge is power. I'm suprised the pr*ck didn't advise the grads to read HuffPo as he did to anouther class last week.
