EDITORIAL: Obama's good luck terrorism strategy
THE WASHINGTON TIMES ^ | Monday, May 10, 2010 | House editorial

Responding to Republican charges that Times Square bomber Faisal Shahzad's plot failed only because of luck, Rep. Ike Skelton, Missouri Democrat, said, "What's wrong with being lucky?"

Nothing at all - until the luck runs out.

As part of their act to get Americans to think they strongly oppose terrorists, liberals for years were constantly comparing conservatives to the Taliban, but when news emerged that Faisal Shahzad was up to his eyeballs in Taliban associations -- and was actually trained by the Taliban -- libbies instantly turned sentimental.

They whimper that Shahzad, who came to this country impoverished with barely over $80,000 and made about a dozen return trips to Pakistan in 11 years, was a victim of the subprime crisis because he refused to pay his mortgage, which liberals blame Bush for. Even mentioning that Islam might've motivated an Islamic nutjob like Shahzad causes liberals to throw temper tantrums, as if you had bad-mouthed their gay partners.

MSNBC's Contessa Brewer admitted that she secretly hoped the Times Square car bomb had been rigged by a balding white guy. It never occurs to her that the SUV might have acted alone.

She cried that the failed car bombing by an Islamic terrorist will be 'used' "as justification for really outdated bigotry," as opposed to the new and improved Islamic anti-Semitism, which only dates back centuries.

Before anyone even knew who was behind the botched car bombing, Mayor Michael Bloomberg speculated that an obvious motive for wanting to blow up hundreds of innocent Americans at random was objection to legislative language in ObamaCare. Cuts in Medicare Advantage or the new state exchanges could turn anyone into a homicidal maniac.

Then when the failed bomber turned out to be a Muslim, the failed Bloomberg warned New Yorkers that he "will not tolerate" any thought crimes against Muslims, threatening to impose a total ban on salt and sugary drinks.

To stop the gasoline-and-propane bomb-makers in their tracks, Bloomberg urged closing the gun show "loophole".

During the Bush administration, liberals claimed hysterically that Bush and Cheney were running a brutal Fourth Reich because they were waterboarding all these captured suburban, Connecticut dads in Guantanamo. Preventing thousands of people from getting blown up isn't worth the terrible price of dunking Khalid Sheikh Mohammed in water.

Liberals insist that under no circumstances is it OK to waterboard those darling little '30-year-old budget analysts' in Gitmo, even when captured on the battlefield, pointing to Shahzad who is allegedly "cooperating" in the ongoing probe. The "cooperating" Shahzad is spilling the beans, furnishing crucial, actionable intelligence, such as not disclosing who was funneling all the cash to him, not revealing any wider plot, not divulging info on future planned attacks, insisting he cooked up his failed attack plan all by his lonesome wolf self after not getting recruited by the Pakistani Taliban which trained him, and that the whole thing was a 'one-off' by a lonely wolf for kicks, nothing to see here, move along!

This wonderful flow of 'useful' info from a fully Mirandized "cooperating" Shahzad must be why we keep getting consistent messages from the botched Obama administration. Homeland Security honcho William Brennan notes that Shahzad has direct links to the Taliban in Pakistan, where he spent five months preparing a failed attack; Gen. David Petraeus notes that Shahzad has no links to the Taliban in Pakistan, other than bumping into terror A-listers now and then in Jihad Central while planning a botched attack; Eric Holder notes that Shahzad has direct links to the Taliban, having trained the incompetent Shahzad in 'unsophisticated' bomb-making; Hillary Clinton says Washington expects more cooperation from Pakistan and Brennan says Pakistan has been very "cooperative" and Robert Gates says Pakistan is "doing so much more than 18 months ago."

Even the Taliban can't seem to keep its contradictory stories straight, initially claiming 'credit' for the botched bombing, then disowning the failed attack after realizing the loser they spent five months training is a blithering idiot.

But Obama honchos keep botching away, insisting their brilliant strategy of failing to detect the travels to and from Pakistan of a top PAF official's son who hung with the Taliban and planted a bomb in Times Square represents success for Homeland Security. Baghdad Bob Gibbs said he's "celebrating the success" of "what law enforcement was able to do" after the bomb failed to go off. Brennan told "Face the Nation" that the bomb didn't go off because of drone attacks that have degraded "the capability to train at these camps in south Asia and the Pakistan-Afghan border." A Predator Drone made Shahzad forget to twist open the valves on the propane tanks. As Obama blasts past Jimmy Carter in the rankings of presidential incompetence, I feel so much safer. Don't you?

Anyway, that's...
My Two Cents...
