Bennett Ousted at Utah G.O.P. Convention (TEA PARTY DEFEATS RINO SENATOR)
The New York Times ^ | May 8, 2010 | Kirk Johnson

Posted on 05/08/2010 3:43:37 PM PDT by Clintonfatigued

Senator Robert F. Bennett, an 18-year veteran Republican who had been seeking a fourth term this fall, was stripped of his party’s nomination on Saturday at the state convention, becoming one of the first Congressional victims of the surging ferment of discontent from the Tea Party-infused Republican right.

Mr. Bennett, 76, was outmatched in delegate votes by two relative newcomers despite an enthusiastic endorsement and convention speech from Mitt Romney, the former Massachusetts governor and local Utah hero, and a political pedigree of deep Mormon roots and public service.

Great job, Utah; but, beware the RINO turning indie.

“Bennett will run independent.”

Utah has a “sore loser” law, so Bennett doesn’t have that option. His political career is over. I wish him a happy retirement.

Yeah, the establishment types are going to run as third party spoilers. It’s an interesting inversion.

“despite an enthusiastic endorsement and convention speech from Mitt Romney”?
Seems Mr. Romney the RINO supports RINO’s.
GO SARACUDA.

Tweet from Larry Sabato:

Mitt Romney was backed almost unanimously by Utah GOP prez primary electorate in '08. But his intro of Bennett this a.m.? Boos & no effect.

These silly little boys failed to read the tea leaves properly. To think that Romney could help him is proof of Bennett’s lack of political savvy.

And the Mormon angle doesn’t work when you are running against Mormons. But that’s another story for another day.

It’s sad when they can’t accept they aren’t the chosen one any longer. What Bennett has said is he may consider a write in race but after thinking if over I expect he’ll finally give it up.

"Mr. Bennett, 76, was outmatched in delegate votes by two relative newcomers despite an enthusiastic endorsement and convention speech from Mitt Romney..."

Mitt Romney's endorsement is a pretty reliable indicator of RINO-hood.

We need to get back to a Congress of your word, honor and integrity, where character matters most. Going to be a tough slog with so many liars.
