Twist: Elton John Banned in Egypt Over Remarks About Jesus

Elton John has been banned from performing an upcoming gig in Egypt as a result of remarks he made earlier in the year that suggested Jesus was a "super-intelligent gay man" and accused Middle Easterners of being homophobic. The New York Daily News reports John's May 18 concert was canceled by Mounir al-Wasimi, the head of Egypt's Music Union.

Jesus is considered a prophet to worshippers of Islam, and John's remarks are considered an insult to the religion. John, who first came out in the '80s, is married to David Furnish.

"A homosexual who wants to ban religions, claimed that the prophet Issa [Jesus] was gay and calls for Middle Eastern countries to allow gays to have sexual freedom [can't perform]," al-Wasimi reportedly told Contactmusic.

In a February interview with Parade magazine, John also condemned countries in the region, which are largely Islamic, for hating on homosexuals. "Try being a gay woman in the Middle East – you're as good as dead," he said in that article.

The irony of the liberals is that they continually beat up on western civilization; the very civilization which tolerates open homosexuality and God-knows-what-else bizarre behaviors. Some of these behaviors would get you locked up or worse in many parts of the world. Yet the relative tolerance of the western world is defecated upon by some of these liberals. Do they really think their lives would be better if western civilization, for all its alleged “homophobia” and “racist bigotry” were replaced by something else????????

No fan of Elton John, the man, but this is beautifully ironic. A middle eastern country bans Elton because he called Jesus, the Christian Messiah, "a gay man", (which I consider blasphemy) and whined about the Muslim taboo against homosexual behavior.

Why then, would this aging rock star (he's 63) want to play a concert in any middle eastern venue? It's absurd. Nice to see a multimillionaire, sheltered and pampered, narcissistic hedonist like Elton John get a dose of reality once in awhile.

I appreciate that we all have a right to express our opinions however Laura Ingraham wrote a book about artists who, as the title said should “Just Shut Up and Sing!”. Elton would be well advised to follow that advice.
