MARBLEHEAD Biff Michaud lifted the door to his garage, looked at the license plate on his black Cadillac Escalade, and began to weep.
This, Michaud insisted, is not just any old tag.
In a state where drivers covet low-number plates, clamoring by the thousands for the few made available every year, Michauds is among the crème de la crème: He is the proud owner of the lowest possible bus license plate 1 which was passed down from his late father and which he believes is a rightful part of his family legacy...

Wholeheartedly agreed. Let him keep the damned plate. OK, it's Boston. OK, I have no idea who the guy is. But everyone is so damned eager to take the scissors to our history, culture, the law, and each other, all this guy just wants to do is to keep a piece of his father's memory alive, and he's getting crapped on. I can understand where this guy is coming from, and I wouldn't care if he was Barney Fwank's personal kneeecapper. On this one issue, I got his back. That plate has a personal and public history, and should be treated as a local treasure.
"But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: for men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away, for his name is Obama."

A bus license place....on a Cadillac....this reminds me of friend of my mother’s.
This woman’s husband retired and they moved far out in the country. Since she didn’t have a truck she transported their chickens - yes! Chickens! - in cages on the leather-covered back seat of her Sedan de Ville Cadillac. They originally moved to Oregon from Chicago, IL.

He should get to keep the plate, but only if he buys a bus to put it on. Shouldn’t be able to get a special privilege for his car.

“But everyone is so damned eager to take the scissors to our history, culture, the law, and each other...”
Well put!
I remember my mother telling me my father was very proud of the low account number he had with the Bank of New York. He was from Worcester, so maybe it’s a Mass. thing.
