Heritage crowd grumbles angrily when Eric Cantor says Obama isn't "domestic enemy

Heritage crowd grumbles angrily when Eric Cantor says Obama isn't "domestic enemy" Eric Cantor unleashed a harsh attack on Obama's national security policies in a speech sponsored by the right-wing Heritage Foundation today, and I've got some video of what may be the best moment: The crowd grumbling audibly in anger when Cantor rebuffed a questioner who suggested Obama is a "domestic enemy." The key moment comes just before the one-minute mark: The audience member claimed Obama had put us at greater risk, and asked Cantor: "What would he have to do differently to be defined as a domestic enemy?" That prompted loud, approving laughter from the crowd. Cantor replied, in part: "No one thinks that the president is a domestic enemy," prompting audible grumbling from the crowd which you can hear on the video at around the 1:10 mark. A source who was there tells me the grumbling was even more pronounced than the C-Span footage suggests. Indeed, Cantor was forced to repeat the beginning of his next sentence twice in order to get his speech back on track. Cantor eventually turned the audience to applause by vowing that Republicans would take the country back from Obama. To be sure, you'll always find a few malcontents in any crowd. But it's worth keeping in mind that this isn't some Tea Party rally. It looked to be made up of donors and more policy-oriented folks. Yet the claim that Obama is a "domestic enemy" was well received, and Cantor's dismissal of it provoked audible groans from at least a few of the attendees.

Obama is Domestic Enemy Number One.

This seems to be one of those situations where the desire on the part of the conservative base to dig into some bloody red meat conflicts with the need on the part of politicians in front of cameras to not give the Democrats and the MSM all kinds of easy openings to spin you to look like a whacko.

Of COURSE Ubama is a “domestic enemy”. He hates everything that traditional America stands for and is doing everything in his power to tear it down. When are Republican “leaders” going to grow some stones?

There were a thousand better ways for Cantor to respond. For example, he could have chuckled and replied, “I certainly can’t blame people for wondering if a man who would tear down America’s military capability while turning the nation into a Euro-style socialist welfare state is a domestic enemy, but....”

Eric, please define 'no one.' Dems? You never answered the question, "What would he have to do differently to be defined as a domestic enemy?". How far does he have to go to prove to you, Eric, that he is a domestic enemy?

That’s easy for you to say when your face isn’t going to be on the nightly news cycle for two weeks, after having your words twisted and spun to make it look like you were calling for the Pres__ent to be hung for treason or something.

I love pulling this on leftists - "what would he/they have to be doing differently if they weren't communists/domestic enemies/trying to destroy the economy". They can't answer.

Notice Cantor DIDN'T ANSWER THE QUESTION EITHER.

Cantor wasn’t expecting that word usage against Obama from that crowd, obviously.

So, he could’ve handled it better than he did when surprised by it.

However...Cantor holds a key position in the House GOP leadership. His words would be shot around the world in a nanosecond, IF he were to agree to the questioner’s terms of Obama being “a domestic enemy”. I personally think his instincts not to go there were correct. He doesn’t need that particular rhetoric in order to excoriate Obama for Obama’s sins.

On this forum, we have it easy. We can, anonomously, refer to Obama in that manner.

And in his heart of hearts, Eric Cantor might feel that way about Obama. But he has a responsibility to remain just short of crossing a line in public that would only complicate our side’s situation instead of enhancing it.

Cantor and the new cream puff party strategy is insulting in it's absurdity.

The guy who asked the question had great timing. He’s like, Wait for it. What would he have to do differently? And he got a well-deserved laugh.

Let’s have FReepers post how many ways Obammy has proven he is an enemy of this country and is doing anything and everything to bring it down. Then email him those details and ask the same freaking question again!

Oh yes...let's cower in a corner shaking in our boots...lest the ENEMEDIA say nasty things about us.

No wonder we are losing the country at the speed of light.

Cantor behaved wisely.

For those grumbling, nobody is better at eating their own than conservatives. Grow up! We live in the real world, not some fantasy world where you can say whatever you wish and ignore how it will be received and projected to the public.

You are exactly right.

There are a lot of FReepers on here who don’t seem to have an ounce of common sense.
