Video from Times Square may show would-be bomber

The car bomb discovered in Times Square would probably have killed or maimed many people, police officials and federal investigators said Sunday as they began assembling evidence collected from the homemade device, video surveillance footage and the vehicle itself to determine who attempted the attack on a warm spring evening in the heart of New York City.

SUV attempts to kill scores in Times Square; taken into custody

Mounting an offensive to reassure the public after the botched car bomb attempt in Times Square Saturday, Obama put Janet Napolitano on television Sunday morning. (File this under 'In case you still harbored doubt Obama is a moron.')

Napolitano told Fox News Sunday that there might possibly, maybe, perhaps be a way to 'seriously consider' the possibility that a car bomb parked in Times Square might've been an act of terrorism, rather than the usual smoking grand opening of an outdoor Barbeque stand. Though they're "not ruling anything out."

The car bomb that Napolitano seriously suspects might have been a car bomb was loaded with three propane tanks, a couple of filled 5-gallon gasoline containers, black powder, electrical wire, two clocks with batteries. The vendor who alerted police said he heard what sounded like firecrackers popping, so the possibility that the incident was an early jump on July 4th celebrations hasn't been ruled out either. Or how about May Day? After 9/11, you can never be too sure.

On ABC's This Week, Napolitano reassured America that we don't exactly have all the facts and don't know what happened, so "Times Square I think now is safe." She added "we are alerting state, local officials around the country, letting them know what is going on" about this incident "that we have no information [about] other than it was a one-off," and nothing more. She also said the border is secure. (And you were wondering why she gets paid the big bucks.)

Meanwhile, Obama has instructed his administration to closely monitor the situation in Arizona.

The Obama administration's default response to a terrorist event is to dryly deny any terror link, pooh-pooh any wider plot (within seconds after the event), pull hilariously amateurish flopperoo Napolitano out of storage to claim it's just an isolated, amateurish one-off flopperoo (move along, nothing to see here), avoid "racial profiling" and, if the culprit's name later turns out to be Mohammed or Hasan, drool about how wonderfully peaceful all Muslims are, and that (insert perp's name here) was just an exception who, anyways, loaded up the ol' SUV with explosives only when he snapped over zoning ordinances in east Jerusalem.

So, seconds after the arrival of reports that a white guy had been captured on surveillance video, the liberal default response was . . . request a huge blow up of the footage to see if that small dot on his red shirt was an anti-Cap-'n'-Trade "Tea Party" button.

The bloody attack outside an Arkansas military recruiting station last summer, plus the bloody Fort Hood shooting rampage in November, plus the botched Christmas Day airline bombing, and now the Times Square car bomb joins the fast-growing list of 'man-caused disasters' unlikely to have occurred were George W. Bush still President.

From the mouths of waterboarded captured terrorists and through "illegal" "warrantless" "wiretaps" the "failed" Bush chaps kept bagging the plotters and foiling the plots early enough in the planning stages that the state-runs routinely brushed aside the threats as 'set-ups' cooked up by the Neo-conic Fascist Zionist Texas Nazi Bush administration in its drive to eeevilly spread Halliburton's demonic hegemony over the planet. Foiled JFK airport terror plot? Set up. Foiled Sears Tower plot? Entrapment. Foiled Brooklyn Bridge plot? Evidence from "warrantless" spying, nuff said. Foiled U.S. Bank Tower (formerly "Library Tower") plot? Set up, or, hmmmm, plot not fully developed. Etc.

After 9/11, Bush counterterror ops so stupendously foiled every plot that libbies invented nutty plots to 'explain' why the system seemed to work. But with Obama you get Napolitano claiming Obama's botched reaction to the Christmas bomber showed the "system worked" and that Obama's inaction at the border has produced a border "as secure as it has ever been."

By the way, how's holding KSM's trial in New York City working out for ya now?

Anyway, that's...
My Two Cents...

This was most definatley an act of terror. Wether it was a foreign or domestic terrorist doesn’t matter. It’s terrorism, plain and simple.

What else do you call an attempt to kill and mame as many people as possible?

To try and disguise this as something else just makes them look even more incapable.

The fertilizer does it for me. This reads as your basic lone loon, probably overexcited by all that coverage of Clinton’s OKC remarks. He heard fertilizer bomb, so that’s what he built.

The whole thing reminds me of a local court case involving two navy guys who’d gotten into a fight over a hooker. They both threw in half the fare, but she didn’t fancy one of them, so she gave him a story about wanting to do something kinky and sent him out to buy a marital aid and some rope. She then took care of business with his buddy and split. In those days, the only thing open in the middle of the night was a drug store. At trial, the prosecution introduced a shopping bag containing a ball of twine and a turkey baster.

Both cases have “sad sack” written all over them.

I wonder if they even took the safety valves off the propane cylinders that prevent them from “blowing up”?

This guy was a terrorist of some sort, albeit a very incompetent one. Little or no training. Probably a crazy, but arent they all?

The situation points out the terrible difference between real forensics and the forensics used to make 99% of cop shows these days. If this were NCIS they would simply go to the video and enlarge the area of the photo to show this man in perfect focus and magnification to run his picture on their computer and have his name in minutes. They would have fingerprints from the car and the bomb, and they would know by now what store he bought the gas cylinders and the fertiliser.

Unfortunately that is a TV show and this is reality, Officials have called this fellow a white guy, thats about all they have, and to be honest, I cannot tell from that video if this guy is white or not, but accusing white guys is a safe thing to do as no one will object. They are not even sure if this is the right guy, much less a white guy.

I suppose they will eventually catch this bomber through good polce work, hard work, and when they do he will get 60 days for leaving his car running without anyone in it.

There was other coverage that mentioned the tanks hadn’t been “prepped”.
