Independence, MO
Sarah Palin felt at home Saturday in Independence as a hockey mom and as a maverick.
"Where else can a hockey mom feel right at home but right here in the home of the (Missouri) Mavericks?" said Palin, a former Alaska governor and 2008 Republican vice presidential candidate, at the Independence Events Center before a crowd of 2,500 attendees. "It takes me back to 2008."
Palin's keynote address concluded Preserving American Liberty's one-day event "Winning America Back," featuring well-known conservatives providing their perspectives on the U.S. Constitution, health care reform and recently passed legislation in Arizona that affects illegal immigrants.
Before talking politics, Palin proudly displayed a Missouri Mavericks hockey jersey made just for her 2-year-old son, Trig, who has Down syndrome. Each morning, Palin said, Trig wakes up, rubs his sleepy eyes and applauds the day.
"I think that's something we can all learn from," Palin, 46, said.
*snip*
Palin spoke against many of President Obama's policies, including health care legislation and the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, but she also said that even Republicans often think of stimulus dollars as "free money."
She applauded the nation's Tea Party movement and encouraged residents to volunteer for campaigns they believe in, even if those running for office are the underdogs.
"They are the everyday, hardworking American," Palin said of political newcomers. "They have the common sense that we need."
Like many speakers throughout Saturday afternoon, Palin charged attendees to make a difference in their communities and to take back the principles that the United States was founded upon.
"You don't need an office and you don't need a title and you don't need a teleprompter," Palin said. "Don't let them get you down. Just keep fighting. My dad always says, 'Don't retreat. Just reload.' Don't let anybody tell you to sit down and shut up."

Events center staff prohibited signs and posters, but supporters still wore T-shirts with messages like "Obama care: It's just bad medicine" and buttons with images of Palin as Rosie the Riveter saying "We can do it!" Several audience members waved American flags in honor of messages they supported.

Kind of like he’s saying “Nice job, God.”
What a great story.

Once again, Sarah has the message and energizes the crowd.
Also once again the enemy knows we are weak thanks to Obama
and have been watching FOX live re the car bomb in Times Square that did’t go off but car burned.

Yes, Sarah is the only one speaking out and speaking out in plain English against this adminstration from Hell.
I am also watching the Times Square news on Fox now.
You have FR mail that will make you LOL.

I was there with my daughter. Hate to say it, but Sara was flat and a bit disappointing. Today was a perfect opportunity for her to dig deep into her knowledge and experience of energy issues in light of the gulf oil spill. She really only spoke in sound bites and phrases we have all heard before. Nothing new, nothing exciting. Part of me wondered if Sarah was just going through the motions. If you think she is going to run in 2012, you’d be wrong, her heart just ain’t in it.
The real stars of the show today were:
#1 J.C. Watts, Absolutely awesome! The crowd was cheering for him to run for Pres in 2012. Looking for a true star of the GOP? Look no further - it is JC. If the video of his speech today ever comes out, it’ll go viral and people will be claiming he is Obama in an alternate conservative parallel universe.
#2 Kris Kobach (co-author of the new AZ law). This guy doesn’t talk in repetitive sound bites and when he speaks you listen because he probably knows more about the constitution, the law and conservative values than all of Free Republic combined. He is like a male Michele Bachmann but with an IQ of 180.

#3 Fred Thompson, Fred had some good things to say and even joked about his lack of commitment early on in the 2008 Pres race.

I’m sorry you found Sarah a bit flat. It was her second appearance of the day.
“Governor Palin’s Doubleheader in Michigan and Kansas City” - she’s a very busy patriot, yet she took time to personally meet with students after the event.
Al B. can better tell about that part.

Sarah has had several back to back in different states speeches along with being on FOX News a number of times
in the past days.
The other folks, this was their big day as their time has come and gone and haven’t been heard from in a long time or very little.

JC is happily enjoying retirement, he even said in response to the 2012 pres chants that he is trying to “uncomplicate his personal life at the moment, not the other way around.
I’d love to see Kris on the national stage but he is a lightning rod even at the local level for Kansas. It will be at least another 4-8years before he is ready to get packaged as a national candidate again.

packaged as a national candidate againHe ran last time?
So you threw Sarah under the bus (who has not declared that she is running anyway) for these two guys, one that is not interested, and the other that will not be ready to be "packaged as a national candidate again" for 4 to 8 years?
Lets see, that would be 2020.

I lost a lot of respect for JC when he couldn't decide whether or not he would vote for Obama in 2008. Apparently color was more important to him than his convictions
