I was at the Sarah Palin speech this morning in Clarkston, Michigan. The event occurred right after massive thunderstorms rolled through the area. Thousands showed up anyway including huge tea party groups. There were supposed to be counterprotesters there but for the few hours that I was there I could not find a single one. And I was looking! The crowd was upbeat and cheery despite the rain. Many were there at 6 in the morning to see Sarah Palin speak at 9am. The auditorium at Mount Zion Church was packed full of patriots and there was also a good ensemble of media there as well. Several thousand showed up to enthusiastically greet the former Alaskan Governor and Vice Presidential candidate. The auditorium at Mount Zion was packed full. Here was a pic from the back of that auditorium:

While I’m unsure whether I would vote for her or not, it is nice to see that she knows better than throw Michigan overboard like so many others in the GOP.

Yeah, during the 2008 campaign, she did not want give Michigan up without a fight, and desperately wanted to campaign there. McCain and Schmidt overruled her and conceded the state to Obama without a wimper.

It obviously pissed Sarah off so much that she started her "Going Rogue" tour there, and she takes every opportunity to speak there, just to prove them wrong.

There’s a first-hand report at C4P from a HS student attending, who said that Sarah asked to meet with the students that were there separately after the event. Needless to say, these students had a very special experience.

His advisors tried to discourage Reagan from wasting time here too. Thank God he ignored them.

We aren’t the rabidly liberal state many try to make us out to be. Democrats only consistently win between 8 and 12 of our 83 counties. We’ve banned affirmative action in state hiring, banned gay marriage, and have decent gun laws including open carry. The GOP is likely to pick up at least two house seats and the governor’s mansion in this election.

For John McCain to basically tell us that we’re SOL didn’t play well against Obama’s Hope and Change.

When you see the crowds when Sarah Palin is introduced,
it is always the loud and excited cheering and applause,
whetever the state.

You don’t and you won’t see that with the WannaBies,
usually sounding like a local rotary lunch response.

I saw Ron Paul last night at a local event (non-political) here in Houston. He was by himself talking on a cell phone...nobody paying any attention to him. :)

Clarkston, isn't that getting out by Livingston County? Very conservative area, even though it's not that far from Detroit. If Sarah were to show up in Livingston Co, or Ottawa Co in the western side, she'd get the same enthusiastic welcome. In fact, they love her over in the western side of the state (I hail from Niles, in the SW corner).

Nevertheless, I think I would take issue with your characterization of MI. Although it's true that there are lots of hunters, gun-owners, et al in MI, the unions have so much power that they set the tone for almost everything. Can you really say it's not a liberal state when Granholm won re-election 58-42? I was still living in MI then, and I was amazed that the state could reelect that dizzy, Kim Novak look-alike by such a margin. I mean, vote fraud can only count for so much...I wish I could say otherwise, but MI looks to remain blue for the foreseeable future. I'd love to be wrong about that (it's home after all), but I just don't see things changing soon.

You've also got the Catholic Church influence, with its institutionalized leftward slant, particularly in Detroit (I speak, BTW, as a Catholic).

I don't know; my home county of Niles would NEVER have elected a democrat for President when I was growing up there 25 years ago, yet it's gone dem ever since Clinton. The area has changed drastically from when I grew up. That's not to say that there are no conservatives still there, but we're not nearly the power we once were. My mom and dad tell me they feel more and more like an endangered species.

I can't see the video (IE v.8) and lots of other stuff. (I get a big white box with a little graphic in the top left corner).

Clinging to a "gun" is a metaphor for clinging to the Constitution- and that, you do have, Ms. Barracuda. It's one of those things (like the Bible) that the ungrateful dead liberals wish you'd forget.

It's the metaphysical "gun" that free people hold to the temple of tyrants who get elected to office. Sadly, it seems to be out of ammo these days (Health Care Destruction, whatever they can ram down throats, etc.). Sarah is holding the ammo-can and they know it. That's why they hate her so (as they would any Founder) because there is an answer to their ills, and they don't want to hear it. They refuse to stay on path set by our Founding Fathers because they're too smart, basically.

Cling to the Constitution if that's all you have. It won't deter a carjacker, it won't deter a home invader, a rapist, or any other miscreant, but it will deter a tyrant. If adhered too, the 2nd ammendment would take care of all those bastards, but it too, has been emascualted beyond recognition in many states (run by sick governors who can't read).

These things too, will change as President Hopey-Changy steps on the backs of productive citizens in his quest for a more 'fair' society.

Socialism has it's limits and in America, it has no place. Our freedom to be charitable knows no bounds. Our freedom to care for the poor has no competitors other than the govt. who demand it at the point of a gun.

They hate Sarah because she could fix this mess. They'd hate anyone who could fix their mess. A mess is what they prefer as it can lead to 'change'- something they've had in mind for some time.
