Want a hint of what happens to middle- and working-class communities long on the receiving end of Democrats’ big government policies?
Travel the Northeast and the Midwestern rust-bucket states where Democratic governance is the rule rather than the exception, where liberalism has been the governing philosophy for decades. What will you find? More than your share of middle- and working-class communities, usually close to cities, that are ailing economically and were hurting for many years before the 2008 recession.
Communities on the way to ghetto-light don’t make the glossy covers of state promotional brochures. Go to some of these communities yourself — in and around cities like Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, Detroit, Cleveland, St. Louis, and Newark. The streets are potholed, new construction is minimal (and often partially or fully subsidized by tax dollars), buildings are run-down or vacant, and there’s a noticeable enervation among the locals given that the entrepreneurial spirits and the ambitious young have moved away to seek their fortunes — or just improve their lots — in the Sunbelt....

As a Pittsburgher (well, a suburban one), I resent the “lumping in” of our city with Detroit, Philadelphia, Cleveland, etc.
While the city has its faults, it truly does not sink to the level of the others.
But we do have a lot of potholes.

Gosh, that Ludacris is very disappointing. I thought rappers were supposed to be clever wordsmiths, telling pithy truths about street life. We were supposed to overlook the violence and vulgarity and see the underlying artistry, right?
This guy is, of course, vulgar and violent, consistent with the genre, but he is also a really lousy lyracist and very immature. Did he graduate from middle school? Why is this man making any money at this?
The really sad thing is that so many people paid him money to do what he does. What contemptible fools.
I hate him because he has persuaded many netizens that his spelling is the correct way to spell ‘ludicrous’. It’s to the point where I am surprised when I see that word spelled correctly online.

Kind of interesting. I have been to Ford Heights off of IL394 South of Chicago. Probably a nice place at one time but it has really gone down even ten years ago. Another place is the area off of Lindberg and I-70 in St. Louis. It was a nice area back in the 1980’s but today, no so much ! Back in Indianapolis where I am from, the area South of 86th & Michigan such as Bent Tree Apartment complex, one time was nice, now I question. I also went to a private H.S. nearby as well.

"This was not the historical norm. Most black kids were born to married parents until the time when President Johnson promised to end poverty. Perhaps because poor people were offered more government aid, moms had less need for a husband. Some mothers could lose a welfare check if their husband made money. People respond to such incentives, and the out-of-wedlock birthrate has continued to grow across the board, but especially among blacks.
'There is no stigma anymore in the black community about having a child out of wedlock,' said Reid, which led to the creation of Marry Your Baby Daddy Day. For those who don't know, Reid explains that 'a Baby Daddy is simply...an unmarried father. But they've become caricatures in the ghetto.'
