For my part I am stranded in Frankfurt after attending a trade show & conference that ended Friday.

Folks who didn't leave Thursday are mostly stranded -- one colleague from Sweden managed to book a long series of trains to Copenhagen for Saturday, but another from the UK still has a day or two to wait. Reports are that lines for Eurostar tickets remained very long yesterday.

Delta has rebooked me several times; I am now booked on flights home Tuesday, but the news doesn't give me much hope for that. Over the past few days an air traffic site tells the story: the airport closures are still spreading south.

For now I'm sitting tight -- my supervisors are supportive; actually, my German boss is in a similar situation: stuck in Shanghai, unable to fly home to Germany. At least I have pretty much everything on my laptop that I need to continue working.

Toured Frankfurt yesterday, will do more today (at least it's sunny), but after that there probably won't be much to see.

Thanks for the update. I am home happy, however I do have a relative that is supposed to fly back to the states from Paris tomorrow and I do not foresee her getting out for sometime.

Hope you find others by starting this ingenious thread :-D.

Best to you in your wait!

Go see a movie. The "Turmplast" has movies in English. Lots of the U.S. military folks patronize that theater. There was a decent Thai restaurant next door.

On one of my trips to Frankfurt, my customer requested that I stay 1 extra day. Bad move. It took 2 weeks to get another flight booked to get home. That was without volcanic dust screwing things up. My customer put me up at the "Arabella Congress" hotel. Easy access to the street level trolley and S-Bahn access directly to the airport and downtown Frankfurt.

You don’t have to apologize to me, I am supportive of marriage, that is why I asked.

I can wiggle out of this if I have to, I know Frankfurt as a soldier, but since then I have become close friends with two large figures at Goethe University, although our friendship is based on when they come to the states for research.

I’m innocent I tell ya!

I was not apologizing, merely declining.

No, but if you have to be stranded, Germany’s a great place. Best beer in the world (lager styles, anyway) and some of the best eye candy you can imagine. Plus the sauerkraut is to die for.

Prost

Thanks for the info! My hotel is not so convenient; it’s at the far end of a tram line.

We are all stranded in Europe (or worse) if we don’t win in 2010 and 2012!

i agree there are definitely a lot more worse places where you could be stranded than in germany especially if you like beer (even i prefer Czech or Austrian Beer but you will get this too there ;-) .

You are correct. There are far, far worse places and situations in which to be stranded.

I posted too quickly I misinterpreted the sorry.

I hope that you like beer and good food, Frankfurt has that, and if you go to the Turkish section then you can get raki and party with Turks, which is fun and rewarding.
