A campaign to declare the mass destruction of ecosystems an international crime against peace - alongside genocide and crimes against humanity - is being launched in the UK.
The proposal for the United Nations to accept "ecocide" as a fifth "crime against peace", which could be tried at the International Criminal Court (ICC), is the brainchild of British lawyer-turned-campaigner Polly Higgins.
The radical idea would have a profound effect on industries blamed for widespread damage to the environment like fossil fuels, mining, agriculture, chemicals and forestry.
Supporters of a new ecocide law also believe it could be used to prosecute "climate deniers" who distort science and facts to discourage voters and politicians from taking action to tackle global warming and climate change.

Coming to a country near you.
Denier Ping!
How about we ask the UN to make sure their blue helmets stop going into regions to protect them, yet instead abuse their women and children, and when caught, simply get returned to their home country rather than prosecuted.
When you cant win an argument make opposition illegal. I just love open minded progressives!
I am still waiting for China, Cuba, Iran, North Korea et al to be tried for real crimes against humanity.
This new ‘crime’ should include all irrigation projects world wide since irrigation introduces trace salt to otherwise pristine deserts, which everyone just adores...
To include manmade structures as well - which destory otherwise pristine valleys and forests - not to mention the ocassional mountain side.
The list goes on...
Ah, so now it's "global warming AND climate change." So if you deny warming OR cooling OR an increase of nasty weather in general OR that the officially sanctioned gov't "climate reports" are anything but brilliantly accurate the psychotic libs want you thrown in the pokey.
All this while they mindlessly rant about "fascists" on the right.
Has Britain entered the realms of the surreal yet?
DANGIT!!
I read the title and got really excited. I thought “ecocide” was destruction of one’s economy. I was going to suggest they try obama in a UN court for crimes against the world economy.
This is so freakin ridiculous, they still cannot try countries and people that have actually committed crimes against humanity and now they want to try ecocriminals. Ya can’t make this up folks. To think that people actually sit around and come up with these kinds of laws. There are real ciminals running around free in this world and they don’t want to go and get them but ecocriminals better watch out. Just try and throw some bubble gum out the window of your car and there will be helicopters chasing you down.

Global Warming on Free Republic
Sounds like Polly Higgins and her website need some educating, also.
Another draconian law enacted by which to make criminals of us all.
Proof: terrestrial(same goes for aqueous) environments: desserts, plains, savannas, scrub/sagebrush lands, boreal forests, rains forests, tundra, alpine talus, riparian zones, swamps, tide lands, and a host of others, are all equally "the environment" that the whacks want protected.
They naturally change from one to another on a continual basis; same if they are "artificially altered".
Man is a part of the environment the same as a prairie dog or a beaver, and both also change their environments to suit themselves, sometimes to their own detriment; mankind should not be treated any differently.
