Perhaps leftist politics is really a movement to prod human evolution to a post-homo-sapiens creature that does not consume carbon and does not release carbon dioxide. Project the future US to a nation of politically-crafted modified genetics where people need not consume anything (as long as they get some minimum amount of sun energy exposure each day). They won’t need toilets... at all, and can see without the aid of not only incandescent light bulbs, but without the mercury-filled squigly things as well.
