Obama Weighs New Peace Plan for Middle East (Sandy 'burglar' Berger returns??!!)

President Obama is "seriously considering" proposing an American peace plan to resolve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, according to two top administration officials.

Obama's attention was focused by a March 24 meeting at the White House with six former national security advisers. The group has been meeting privately every few months at the request of Gen. Jim Jones, who currently holds the job. In the session two weeks ago, the group had been talking about global issues for perhaps an hour when Obama walked in and asked what was on people's minds.

Brent Scowcroft, who served as national security adviser for Presidents Gerald Ford and George H.W. Bush, spoke up first, according to a senior administration official. He urged Obama to launch a peace initiative based on past areas of agreement; he was followed by Zbigniew Brzezinski, the national security adviser for Jimmy Carter, who described some of the strategic parameters of such a plan.

Support for a new approach was also said to have been expressed by Sandy Berger and Colin Powell, who served as national security advisers for Presidents Bill Clinton and Ronald Reagan, respectively. The consensus view was apparently shared by the other two attendees, Frank Carlucci and Robert C. McFarlane from the Reagan years.

When I was reading this article I was actually encouraged that Obama is listening to others. Then I came upon the line about Brzezinski the anti-semite, and Sandy 'the burglar' Berger. The fact that our gov't still allows Berger ANY access to these discussions is an outrage. The man should be sitting in prison for stealing documents which is all likelihood implicated the Clinton Administration in ignoring the threat OBL and AL-Qaeda presented before 9/11.

After reading the article, I am more certain than ever that those in charge in Washington DC have no clue what is going on in this country or the world.

Don't be fooled. Media hype--that Obama is a "listener" and "gives all points of view a chance" is crap. He is an Alinskyite, anti-Israel, pro-fascist class warfare specialist.

Anything reported to the contrary is bull.

You can talk all you want, but ultimately you can’t have “peace” if one side wants to destroy the other. Of course, I suspect any peace plan from Obama will be designed more to weaken Israel than anything else. They see Israel’s destruction as the real path to peace.

Geesh! It's like the movie “Groundhog Day!”

Every president seems to think HE can make it work in that area of the world. And sure as hell, every president is left looking foolish, if not downright stupid.

Peace will come only when both sides want it. Doesn't matter why they want it, just that they want it. Israel wants it now and has given and given and given, usually at the urging of yet another POTUS. The Palestinians will want it when they have an giant can of industrial strength whoop-ass opened and spread all over them. As Rush points out over and over. War becomes peace only when one side has been totally destroyed. Israel tries to deal with the PA but as long as the liberals of the world see the situation as parity between the two, or the PA as victims, it will not change.

IMHO, nothing but the scenario presented in Revelations will bring peace to that area. The final chapter has been written and the PA will not like the ending.

These guys don’t have any new ideas. They are recycling what didn’t work before. Obama needs better advice than this.

Berger's back in the saddle :-(

and Jim Jones is trying to hold “private meetings” unsullied by the domination of the insipid stupid naive “I'm in charge here” Barry Soetero - I wonder who ratted out Gen Jones to the potus and facilitated his “surprise” appearance

Sounds disturbingly like the “private” meeting called by India, Brazil, China and others at Copenhagen last December, where Barry insisted on entering the room and announced he was in charge

The White House rejoinder is expressed this way by one of the senior officials: "It's not either Iran or the Middle East peace process. You have to do both."

That's just a way to make Israel the fall-guy for any and all problems.

The Jewish State is now utterly isolated diplomatically.

On a fundamental concern. Except for Powell (as S of St) and Berger all of these men saw the Arab Israeli matter in terms of the Cold War. The USSR, though a supporter of the PLO, was a rational player and would never countenance the physical destruction of Israel. Today the major player is Iran. A thoroughly irrational and messianic entity which has Israel’s destruction at the forefront.During the hostage crisis Zbig couldn’t get his brain to accept the fact that Khomeini really did want the Shah’s head on a plate. These are not the guys we should be seeking advice from.
