WASHINGTON, April 6 (UPI) -- The prospect of losing two U.S. House seats in special elections spurred a Democratic effort to avoid a potential domino effect in November, strategists said. Projections for special elections next month in Hawaii and Pennsylvania have caused alarm among Democratic officials, who said they feared dual defeats would play into the thinking that the Democratic Party is consigned to huge losses in the fall, Politico reported Tuesday. In Hawaii, party leaders said they were worried the two top Democrats will split the vote, allowing a Republican to take a seat with a plurality in the state's all-party special election. A Republican snatching a Democratic seat would lead to "all the talking heads on Fox News saying, 'A blow to President Obama in his home state,' and you'll have (House Minority Leader) John Boehner saying, 'The people have spoken again,'" said Kam Kuwata, a Democratic strategist.

Here's more information on the "report" at Politico, detailing how Democratic strategists are gearing up to help the Dem candidates in the weeks ahead: Democrats' special-election scramble If the Dems lose these two special elections, it will foreshadow the wave of change in November and should stop their agenda in Congress this summer while they still have the majority ... and they know it. Please pitch in to help the Republican candidates in these races, as it will send a LOUD message to the nation that a Conservative Congress is the best way to stop and roll back the Obama agenda.

A Republican pick up in Hawaii? Wow....
No matter what happens this is a disaster for the Progressives. Seem the “geniuses” in the US Junk Media missed the obvious.
If Democrats have to spend this heavily, and work this hard, in their SAFE districts just to hang on, they are TOAST in the swing seats.
Now let make disaster catastrophe and wins these seats!
Not really. It means there is a majority of people in that district that are stupid beyond comprehension.
One can only hope for crushing defeats for the Dems. in both.
Take no prisoners.
The demonrats have a lot to worry about!!!!...like their next job move!
Praying for it - but doubtful...
Murtha was very effective at bringing home to bacon to his constituents. For many busy, harried voters, that’s enough. He also had the camouflage of being a Dim with military service. So I wouldn’t necessarily say his district is populated by stupes. Maybe they’ll smarten up in this election!
There’s no way that Murtha’s district should have been a Dem for all those years. Voters being stupid might not be out of the question here. I mean, in his last election Murtha called his own constituents stupid rednecks and they still voted for him. Is this Pavlov’s dogs syndrome?
Burns is running the special election and he’s starting to put up his adds now. He should win. It’s confusing because he might not win the Republican primary to challenge in November. The last poll showed Col Russell winning. We’ll see what happens. Either would be a solid conservative in the house.
> A Republican pick up in Hawaii? Wow....
From the WSJ on March 16: - snip - The Aloha State has a unique special-election structure in which the candidate with the most votes wins without a primary or runoff. The two bickering Democrats in the raceformer Congressman Ed Case and Hawaii state Senate President Colleen Hanabusamight split the vote and help a little-known city councilman named Charles Djou become the first Republican to represent Hawaii in Washington in two decades. |
You know they'd say that Kam, because it would be the TRUTH!!!
And a big F'n deal....
There should be one in NY too for the dirtbag that resigned.
That could cause the island to tip over and capsize.
Lots of democrats then.
the PA seat is kind of misleading it is probably more competitive than people realize only reason it kept voting Dem was because of Murtha (lord knows why) heck it voted McCain in 08 and Kerry in 04
If the dems lose that one it is probably a just resorting to a competitive district
but if they lose Hawaii it is a huge slap in the face to Dems.
i would love to see them lose both.
Which one will Obama bribe to drop out?
Speaking as someone who lives in Hawaii; I don’t know about Pennsylvania, but I have my doubts about Hawaii.
Don’t get me wrong, I am hopeful about Charles Djou but on the other hand, the plantation mentality is unfortunately alive and well in Hawaii.
Hey, don’t forget Florida 19!! Ed Lynch might have a chance...taking that whiny puke Bobby Wexler’s place!!
Glad to see I don't be alone innat thinkin'. < /Con. Hank Johnson>
