President Obama's strategy to protect us from the danger of nuclear war and nuclear terrorism is about to be tested. The precept that good deeds (and fabulous speeches) beget good deeds will face reality at two major international conferences: Obama's Nuclear Security Summit in mid April and the Review Conference of the Parties to the Non-Proliferation Treaty in May.
Obama proffered an attractive vision of a world without nuclear weapons, and a theory--that if Russia and the U.S. reduce their stockpiles, other nations will be inspired either to give up their nuclear arms or refrain from acquiring them. That is the best kind of leadership--setting a good example, serving as a role model, changing the atmosphere.
I predict (and it takes very little foresight to make this prediction) that the American and Russian moves toward zero will have no discernable effect on any of these burning issues. The President will have to employ other means to foster the nations involved to make progress in the required directions.
I am not against inspiring the people of the world and their leaders. However, it seems quite evident that the U.S., its allies, and other responsible powers must add strong incentives for nations to deproliferate and strong disincentives for those who do not. Much stronger sanctions, fuller enforcement of the ban against shipping nuclear material from one nation to another, diplomatic pressure on India and Pakistan to settle their differences (rather than providing either with nuclear assets and know-how), and at least leaving military options on the table are all called for.
Nuclear arms are the greatest threat to our security, that of our allies, and to world peace. It is time to treat them accordingly.
Revelation 6:8 And I looked, and behold a pale horse: and his name that sat on him was Death, and Hell followed with him. And power was given unto them over the fourth part of the earth, to kill with sword, and with hunger, and with death, and with the beasts of the earth.
A nuclear WWIII is in the works, followed by the deathblow to America as prophesied in Revelation 18.
What? Who? Who's making "fabulous speeches"?
O’s Fantasy of No Nukes would be a world of massive conventional armed conflict.
Wars far beyond the scale of WWII. Death and Destruction of the innocent on such a scale as the blood would stain the earth to the mantle.
The Nuke has brought peace to the world.
When will this guy figure out, peace is peace. Negotiation of the nukes doesn’t bring more peace, it either it is or it isn’t.
Lack of Nukes means war.
Fatuous speeches?

I didn’t think America itself is identified in end times prophesy. However, I beleive our country is going to be either destroyed or very badly hurt by foreign powere. We are now being hit from within and soon from without.
Yes, you understand that in the end, all Countries will turn against Israel - happening as we watch. Wondered why we were not mentioned in the Bible myself, maybe it is because in the end times, we are insignificant. Seems that it is the way we are going...
This is not a rational response to Israel, but a rage response. For them daring to sit there while Slammies keep losing their head. The devil is behind it.
Silly, I support Israel to the hilt! I’m just quoting the Bible to you - did you read it?
Mr. Communitarian has spoken.
He’s what he is ... but half the people who voted for him were on crack!
Russia will NOT cut their nukes. We will be shown old 1970’s nukes IF we verify (which we won’t). Russia, err the “Former” USSR, meanwhile, continues to build nukes and upgrade their ABM systems.
Of course they won’t. It’s all one sided in favor of our Cold War foe.
