Tea Party Anger Reflects Mainstream Concerns (by Juan Williams)
Wall Street Journal ^ | April 3, 2010 | Juan Williams

Posted on 04/03/2010 8:33:12 AM PDT by SmartInsight

There is danger for Democrats in recent attempts to dismiss the tea party movement as violent racists deserving of contempt. Demonizing these folks may energize the Democrats' left-wing base. But it is a big turnoff to voters who have problems with the Democratic agenda that have nothing to do with racism.

Putting a racial lens on the tea party activists may also help Democrats by painting congressional Republicans into a corner as debate begins on immigration reform. Hispanic voters are going to be looking at Republicans and their tea party supporters for evidence of racism in any effort to block reform.

But Democrats cannot win elections without capturing the votes of independent-minded swing voters. And that is where writing off the tea party as a bunch of racist kooks becomes self-destructive. The tea party outrage over health-care reform, deficit spending and entitlements run amok is no fringe concern. And it is insulting to all voters to suggest that criticism of President Obama, even by people who want to throw him out of office, is motivated by racism.

Juan Williams is very liberal, but even he gets it.

From the WSJ comments:

What we are headed to is a bully state where the state will bully young and adults into buying insurance, behaving in certain politically correct ways, rewarding or punishing you for agreement or dissent. There is no path to independent, individual success, escape from a bully state without ridding oneself of the bullies.

“Black unemployment remains nearly double unemployment among whites (16.2% to 9.7%)”

So how is that “hopey-changie” working out for you?

Are Black voters still supporting Obama? Why? I thought MLK said that we should look at the character of our leaders, not their skin color. So when will Black voters follow MLK, instead of Obama?

A summary quote:

“The tea party is not the problem. Whether you like them or not they do seem to have captured the political angst in the electorate, without regard to skin color.”

Democrats ignore this at their peril.

Sounds like that @ss-kicking Sean Hannity and Stuart Varney gave Juan at the Reagan Library knocked some sense into his head.

And you stepped in it Juan, when you said Tea Partiers who waved the "Don't Tread on Me" flag was reminiscent of Timothy McVeigh.

Juan,

We didn’t capture anything. WE ARE ANGST. We didn’t catch it, we ARE it. Thats where you political chatters miss the point. The average person is FED UP WITH THE POLITICAL CLASS. Thats not racist, that’s free men and women FIGHTING BACK against the tyranny and illegal take over’s by this government. We are rising up now, and even those in the press are going to feel our wrath.

We are DONE with trusting government.

CAUTION: The kenyan will just use this information to intensify "redistribution" to insure that "his people" get their reparations.

I'll bet that liberals view Juan Williams as a flip-flopping, moral-equivalencing, Obama defending/criticizing, weasel-wording, slick-tongued bloviator the same as we conservatives view Bill O'Reilly.

I think Juan IS liberal, he DOES want the Dems to win, but he sees that demonizing the tea party movement will backfire on the Democrats. He want the Dems to be reasonable so they won’t lose big in November, which is where they are headed right now.

Juan William motives don’t agree with ours, but he does understand that the anger is from “mainstream” people, not just some “fringe” element as the Obamanoids would like to present it.

I like Juan. I don’t usually agree with him but, as far as liberals go, he’s pretty fair minded and pretty balanced.

Are Black voters still supporting Obama? Why?

Please... If blacks have never abandoned the party that destroyed the urban black family unit by replacing fathers with a welfare checks, they are not about to abandon Ubanga.

The Democrat party was successful in making an overwhelming number of blacks dependent on government handouts and, naturally, they eventually became addicted to government handouts. And just as drug addicts keep going back to their dealers for a fix, government addicts likewise keep going back to THEIR dealers. That would be Democrat politicians. The government drug is purchased with votes.

The communist Ubanga is the ultimate drug pusher, and he is surrounded by an army of thugs.

Yep and there plenty of whites where I live that seem to feel like it’s there right. Michigan is to generous when it comes to welfare. Plenty of substance abusers and women who have multiple children by more then one man, just living off the rest of us like leeches.
