Republican Sen. John McCain (Ariz.) and Democrat Mark Warner (Va.) are both fans of President Barack Obama's plan to expand offshore oil and gas drilling.
Obama announced that areas off the Atlantic coast will now be open to drilling, but not areas in the Pacific and many parts of Alaska.
McCain, Obama's opponent in the 2008 presidential election, tweeted:
Drill baby drill! Good move - where are Reid and Pelosi on this?
The Arizona Republican has been outspoken against many other items on Obama's agenda, especially since he faces a primary challenge from former Rep. J.D. Hayworth, who is running to his right.
McCain had also said this month that Republicans would not cooperate with Democrats for the rest of the year because of the passage of healthcare reform legislation. But he later slightly backed away from those remarks.
Warner, a centrist Democrat whose state will likely benefit economically from drilling off its coast, tweeted Tuesday:
Pres. Obama's offshore oil/gas exploration anncmt is good news & positive step forward for VA & will help expand domestic energy production
Next step: Congress must approve revenue-sharing formula btwn fed & state govts. Will work w/ colleagues to make sure VA gets fair share.

Well, drilling is drilling, and at least this is a start.
Is there any oil there? Why not drill where we know there’s oil?
Obozo’s statement about expanding off-shore oil is a deception.
He is still against it (and against the US), but has realized his image is damaged by his stance. He will make noises, but deliver nothing.
McLame is a fool for supporting this tripe.
Why would I drill, if the chance was that I would not be permitted to extract the oil?
We’ve done this before. Dems allowed drilling in 2008 because they were getting their rears kicked and the pulled the football away after Obama was elected.
Ah, McCain. No fool like an old fool.
Democrat Warner was NOT a fan of offshore drilling.
He only supports it now that Obama wants to use it for political ends, like neutralizing the hard news of rising oil prices with $5 a gallon in the near future.
Warner mocked new Rep Gov Bob McDonnell during the recent campaign when McDonnell said he would be pushing drilling off Virginia’s shores.
Soon Warner and Obama will be supporting nuclear power, although Warner did nothing to facilitate more nuclear power in Virginia while he was governor.
McLame “the tool” strikes once again. The fix is in. Go Tea Party, screw the rest. The GOP is going full speed ahead.
This is not going to change.
This does not provide for drilling. Actually, he ordered a halt to a large Alaskan project, put other known oil-rich areas off limits, and only allowed for SEISMIC EXPLORATION of a couple of areas to begin IN A FEW YEARS. Not only is the latter part of the order meaningless, but the former part makes the situation even worse than previously.
This was all phrased in such a way as to deceive, and it has obviously worked.
McLame, you “aren’t campaigning anymore.” Oh wait, yes you are and you’re about to lose your “position.”
Warner supports it because he knows perfectly well that it doesn’t provide for drilling.
President Reagan granted amnesty to two million people and that was wrong, McCain said.

How does anyone support this man?
He’ll just use it as leverage for something else.
There will be several years of environmental studies, followed by lawfare from Eco groups before the first lease is awarded. Then round two starts with several years of environmental studies, followed by lawfare from Eco groups before any permits are issued. Then round three starts with several years of environmental studies, followed by lawfare from Eco groups.....
And on and on and on...
No surprise that its a stick in the eye. It sounded too good to be true.
We need about 10x more drilling, then Obama will get credit
Really shouldn't McCain who has served his country honorably just realize he's being used as a fool and gracefully bow out, enjoy is enormous wealth and let JD handle things form here on out?
1. I worked as an owner-contractor in SE New Mexico for 20 years. There were at least 11 new or overlooked natural gas and oil fields found there in that time. One of the former was huge beyond all expectation. It all of a sudden became ...”unique, valuable, scenic...” to the BLM.
2. There is no such thing, as we now well know, as a centrist Republican or Democrat.
3. GO J.D. HAYWORTH and beat that fatuous, treasonous old fart!
