Correct, and under the new public option health care (which will be, by the way, the ONLY option in a few years), they will charge smokers 50% more, AND refuse to give them medical care. IMHO
>>legalizing pot
That’s what I tell people who are for legalizing and taxing it.
As it is, in MA, it is still barely legal to smoke a cig on the pavement, but illegal to do so for pot in many, if not most, municipalities, it’s non criminal status notwithstanding.
And once legal, the same restriction will be put on pot like tabak.
Careful what you wish for.
If everyone quit smoking local state and feds would wither on the vine.
I am a smoker
So, why are you picking on the over-weight? Both smokers and over-weight people are scape-goats. While neither condition is healthy. the leftists never pick on those who are promiscuous.
Want to know how much it costs to take care of promiscuous peoples’ health care? I really wish someone would figure out the costs of the following:
Lab tests for STD’s, often repeatedly on the same people - costing about $200-400 each time they show up with some signs of an infection: AIDS, Chlamydia, Herpes, Gonorrhea, HPV, Syphillis, etc.
Then add the costs of all the extra doctor visits too!
Children born outside of marriages: fatherless kids and all that comes with it - poverty, dysfunctional behavior; generational problems with welfare lifestyles, drug abuse, child abuse, etc.
I personally think the promiscous lifestyle is by far the most costly behavior proble when it come to hiking up the health care costs in this country.
Of course, the left thinks sexual promiscuity is the Holy Grail and to bring up the topic is being judgemental, which they rail against. They should look in the mirror!
Think about the smoker, gun owner, GOP voter, who is anti-union and anti- illegals? We will be last in line for anything health-related.
STDs are the gift that keep on giving. Obesity is not contagious but syphilis is.
Isn’t smoking a disability yet? If paraplegics have to have access to strip clubs, smokers should have access to hospitals. No logic, but what the heck.
Who wants a Nurse who smells like an ash-tray changing your IV?
>gun owners
LOL! Apart from cigarettes, what other product, if used as intended, kills?
The logic of the tobacco bans in bars, music joints and nightclubs is coming to your house.
See SmartGrid!
I don’t want a surgeon or a nurse or a phlebotimist with the shakes working on me.
Hope I don’t ever need to go to that hospital.
The wheels are in motion to even prohibit tobacco use at home and in your private car.
The “bedroom police” are still writing up offenses for “crimes” in the home even when the activity/substance itself is legal.
You nailed it.....and amazingly, many even here on FR, go right along with it.
> If you want to work there, dont downhill ski.
Hey! Now that’s going too far!
What’s next - no snowboarders???
I am a pessimist, aka realist.
I believe the oncoming tsunami of regulations will be all enveloping.
Privacy, liberty, are all archaic concepts unfit for an era of Health Uber Alles, our new guiding and governing principle.
And as I’ve been saying, in the near future, all citizen-subjects will be treated the way smokers are today.
Now a brief word from Mark Twain: “I dont want any of your statistics. I took your whole batch and lit my pipe with it. I hate your kind of people. You are always ciphering out how much a mans health is injured, and how much his intellect is impaired, and how many pitiful dollars and cents he wastes in the course of ninety-two years indulgence in the fatal practice of smoking; and in the equally fatal practice of drinking coffee; and in playing billiards occasionally; and in taking a glass of wine at dinner; etc. etc. etc. ...You never see but one side of the question. You are blind to the fact that most old men in American smoke and drink coffee, although, according to your theory, they ought to have died young; and that hearty old Englishmen drink wine and survive it, and portly old Dutchmen both drink and smoke freely, and yet grow older and fatter all the time. And you never try to find out how much solid comfort, relaxation and enjoyment a man derives from smoking in the course of a lifetime, (and which is worth ten times the money he would save by letting it alone) nor the appalling aggregate of happiness lost in a lifetime by your kind of people from NOT smoking. MARK TWAIN SAN FRANCISCO, 1865
The same government that gives you your daily healthcare can take it away.
“pre-existing conditions” was a red herring. Sounded good like everyone would be covered but the truth will out.
Same as there are those willing to go on record to say that federally funded abortions will help keep healthcare costs down by reducing the number of people covered.
WHat is truly scary is the mentality of the American people, and not so shocking as it first was, the wholesale endorsement of government diktats by Freepers and their gleefulness at the abrogation of property rights, freedom of association and assembly, and their rush to trample liberty when some human activity offended their particular peccadilloes.
