Lipinski Lonely But Proud To Be Pro-Life Democrat
Chicago Tribune ^ | March 28, 2010 | John Kass

Posted on 03/28/2010 5:57:06 AM PDT by raptor22

The only Illinois Democrat in Congress to vote against Obamacare was on the phone.

U.S. Rep. Dan Lipinski — one of the few pro-life Democrats who didn't cave in to White House pressure — was explaining how it felt to be very much alone.

"It was rather lonely, yes," Lipinski said of voting against President Barack Obama's federalized health care agenda. "But I could not vote for a bill that would change the status quo on funding for abortion."

By voting "no," Lipinski has put a target on his back for smears from the White House staffed by the guys from Chicago.

"There were aspects of the president's package that I liked. Helping people get insurance, that sort of thing. But we weren't really voting for health reform. We were voting for a bill that is financially unsustainable. And I couldn't support that bill," he said.

As a Roman Catholic against abortion, he's formally a pariah among most Democratic elites. And predictably, he's been attacked by unnamed White House sources in media reports. Who's behind that? Perhaps when White House chief of staff Rahm Emanuel (D-Tomczak) asks me out to lunch, he'll tell me.

There is no such thing as a pro-life socialist/progressive/totalitarian/collectivist/’rat.

It(he) is an oxymoron. A bundle of deception and/or contradictions.

Who cares? If his only objection to Obamacare is abortion funding he is still the enemy and needs to go.

He may be anti-abortion but he is not pro-life. Statism is death to individuals. In many ways and on all levels. Statists are anti-life.

If your team decides it wants something you personally don’t want, then you aren’t a team player. You will not be trusted by your teammates. You can’t play the game alone. So, you either switch teams or you quit the game. But us voters can’t afford to elect individuals who support our views when it’s the team that sets the agenda.

Isn’t that enough? I care. I care about the unborn, some of whom will grow up to be Democrats.

Is it enough? I don't know, what if Obama had needed this guys vote, would he have pulled a Stupak? I'd hope not, but these days, I don't think there are any Democrats with any real convictions.

I'll bet he voted for Pelosi as Speaker.

Stupak proved that there is no such thing as a "good" Democrat. After his cave-in, I vowed that I would never vote for a Democrat as long as I live.

Doesn't mean I'll automatically pull the lever for the other party, but the Democrats are dead to me.

No, it's not enough. If that's his only objection to the healthcare bill he's still the enemy.

You don’t have to have a beer with the guy or even vote for him, but give credit where and when credit is due. Before stupid Stupak sold out, we were all cheering him on, whether he was a Democrat or not. When the Judge of us all calls the roll, He will not ask whether we were for buying insurance across state lines. He will ask what we did or tried to do for the unborn.

The only reason he voted no was because they had the votes all figured out before hand. There is no such thing as a pro-life democrat.
