Israel must surely realize that they are now essentially on their own. Despite continued massive support from the American people, the US government has betrayed them, for the ruling junta's own purposes.

I just don't understand any of this unless it is this. American Jews and Catholics find socialism preferable to liberty. I'll bet Jews in Israel don't share the same view. And Catholics in Poland didn't see it the same way some years ago.
