So the three largest theater chains raised their prices at the exact same time.
Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't that glaring evidence of price collusion? Or do movie theaters enjoy an antitrust exemption I'm not aware of?

Over the last decade I’ve been averaging about 1 movie theater viewing per year. I think I’ll let that lapse to zero.

They think the American people are stupid fools and will sheepishly line up to be indocrinated by the fascist/commie/socialist/ hollywood movies.
Maybe everyone should take a personal oath to NOT support these people in H-wood.

I haven’t been to a theater since Seabiscuit came out.
They can raise it to $50 a pop fo al I care, I have no intention of paying for all of those liberal Hollywood “stars” to live their life style.

Turn off the liberal stations. Don’t go to liberal movies. No need with the internet.

Well, I haven't been inside a movie theatre since "Top Gun" was released back in the 80's...so I doubt this will be of any consequence to me.
Besides, I saw "Creature from the Black Lagoon" in 3D back when I was a kid...in the 50's.
Like everything else in hollywood, 3D is a redeux.

I just bought an el cheapo blu-ray player from Amazon. Blu-rays rent for a dollar around here so I don’t think I’ll be going to the theater anymore. Movie watching is better at home.

I have a constitutional right to see movies in theaters.
A 26% increase is just fat cat movie execs trying to cash in on my rights. And this disproportionately hits minorities and the poor.
It's time for the government to take over the movie industry. Where are you President Obama? You know you want to be a movie exec.....

If they would make good movies consistently I'd go more and I'd pay more. But 99% of the crap that is filmed these days is just that, crap.
I think I have gone to the movies about once a year in the last decade and of the 10 movies I've seen I was disappointed in nearly all of them.
The Star Trek movie was pretty good. And Iron Man was pretty good. Beyond that I just wasted my money.

It's a valid point, but the article did note that the price increases varied among them.
Movie theaters are also a lot like gas stations in one respect . . . the prices they charge reflect a lot of costs that they pay uniformly across the industry, so there shouldn't be any surprise that there is some consistency among them in terms of their prices.
Having said that, I have to say that I don't much care how much they charge. I've been inside movie theaters a total of three times since 1995.

I had a case of sticker shock when I saw Avatar.
I don't go to movies in Manhattan nor "downtown" Brooklyn, so I thought I'd save money. Nope.
Instead of seeing Avatar over Christmas break, early in the day, I saw it after school, only to discover that the bargain weekday matinees aren't before six, but not before three (so you have to cut class to catch them).
I went to the IMAX version only because I just I could justify the amount to myself better. I skipped the popcorn.

I’ll stay home. Between the crying kids, and cell phones, and the TO LOUD sound system, I’ll wait until Netflix gets them. Then I can watch in my PJ’s with my scotch and water at hand.
