The health-care overhaul that President Barack Obama signed into law will mean big changes for many small businesses.
Through a combination of penalties, tax credits and purchasing pools, lawmakers aim to boost insurance coverage for U.S. workers. How this legislation will affect businesses depends in large part on their size.
Beginning in 2014, organizations with more than 50 employees that don't offer affordable coverage will pay a penalty starting at $750 a year per full-time worker under the bill approved by the Senate and House of Representatives.
A proposal approved separately by the House, which still requires Senate approval, would raise that penalty to $2,000.

Did the requirement that construction firms had to provide coverage no matter the number of employees get left in?
In other words, there are going to be a whole lot fewer small businesses after this goes into effect.
Again, the idea is to set the table for single payor.
This can destroy many small businesses. I suggest that where necessary wages be reduced to cover the cost of insurance.
Maybe there will be a whole lot MORE of them, since this bill includes a lot of incentives to shrink a business down to less than 50 employees.
Doom.
Well, hopefully small businesses have time to prepare somewhat. In the past decades Americans salaries haven’t gone up as much as they could have because more people were receiving more generous benefits. I think businesses are going to obviously price this into their product while it will naturally be much harder to raise employee salaries.
This is a question to whomever might know the answer. If a business that currently has 80 employees splits into two separate companies, does this avoid the requirement? If so, there will be a LOT Of companies with 49 employees.
There will soon be an entire industry built around these firms providing consulting services to clients to help them circumvent the legal requirements of ObamaCare.
The 50th employee will be joining the unemployment line.
It's all part of the plan. We must gather millions of people to DC. Millions. This tyranny must not stand.
Our wonderful Senator Suzie Collins* has mustered the courage to state that she’s going to call for an amendment that would make the penalties to small businesses that don’t provide insurance basically a tiny bit smaller.
*There’s a great line at the end of the third scene of Rimsky Korsakov’s opera, Sadko where the hero bemoans the small mindedness of his wife, basically - “women, long of hair and short of brains.” Fits Collins to a tee.

Who defines affordable?
An excellent question.
After all, there is no rule to govern just what percentage of an employees coverage an employer must pay, at least from what I’ve read.
If that is indeed the case, all future increases can be passed directly to the employee. If the employer “offered” the insurance but the employee “opts out” in writing because the premium is outrageous (which is very likely due to the additional 20-30 million higher risk people being foisted upon the HMO’s, not to mention the obvious plan of adding illegals too), the problems will intensify.
Evenntually, with the payers opting out and only the high risk left on the HMO’s, they will die as planned. We’ll all end up getting our insurance through these “exchanges” which will meld into one big universal medical program that are efficency killers. We’ll be Canada within the next 6 yrs, and Cuba within the next 12.
This has been the plan all along, Obama knows it and so do all of his minions. They’ve stopped at absolutely nothing, ruthlessly destroying what took hundreds of years to build. And they wonder why there’s anger out there.
