McCain backs off slightly from 'no cooperation' threat (he is waiting until after his re-election)
The Hill, Washington, DC ^ | 2010-03-24 | Michael O'Brien

Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) seemed Tuesday night to back off his threat that Republicans wouldn't cooperate with Democrats the rest of this year.

McCain, who's drawn heavy criticism from Senate Democrats and members of the Obama administration for his remarks, said that the GOP would partner with Democrats on issues in the "national interest."

"Look, let me just clarify that," McCain said of his previous remarks during an appearance on Fox News. "If it's in the national interest and there's something that requires us to work together -- a national emergency, something that we think will help the country -- sure."

But the Arizona Republican, who is up for reelection this fall, still said it was difficult to envision a situation where the two parties would want to sit down with each other to work together on an issue.

"What I meant was, for us to sit down together and say gee, how can we get something accomplished?" McCain asked. "We'll just wait until after the election."

It must be killing Juan to have to act conservative. He can’t wait to start strutting across the aisle and appeasing the enemy.

He wants to be the maverick again and stab his own party in the back.

We wouldn’t be in the mess we’re in if it weren’t for McCain. He never really fought for the Presidency. Remember he was pretty much happy to be beaten by the first African American president!! What a complete a**! I hope the people of AZ get rid of him.

McLame has no guts, no spine, and no gonads as evidenced by the last election. He had to have known about Zero’s plot to destroy the country. And, he keeps his medical and will be kept alive whereas the rest of us won’t.

Let me guess- he wants to “Reach Across The Aisle” (tm) to his “Demnocrat Friends”

I think he may actually physically be giving them a reach around.

Putz.

It’s way past time for AZ to dump this relic. He can’t even lie convincingly. Sarah has no business campaigning for him.

McCain needs to have a talk with his buddy Graham who is busy working out a cap ‘n tax compromise with Lieberman and Kerry.

McCain will sell us out - he called us “racists” using an alinsky tactic.

Palin, Romney, Fred, Kyl and other RINOs backing McCain are idiots.

It’s stupid to say you’re not going to cooperate. The media and the Dems can easily cast you as obstructionist. It’s a quick path to losing your job.

What you do is say you’re going to cooperate, and then do anything but cooperate. Look how it works for the Dems, “Clean up the culture of corruption”, “Total transparency”, “New era of bipartisianship”, and on and on. The Dems never had any intention of acting on any of those, they just say it because it appeals to the public.

“If it’s in the national interest and there’s something that requires us to work together — a national emergency, something that we think will help the country — sure.”

What is he talking about? If we have to declare war on France, or something?
