WASHINGTON -- Hours after President Obama signed historic health care legislation, a potential problem emerged. Administration officials are now scrambling to fix a gap in highly touted benefits for children.
Obama made better coverage for children a centerpiece of his health care remake, but it turns out the letter of the law provided a less-than-complete guarantee that kids with health problems would not be shut out of coverage.
Under the new law, insurance companies still would be able to refuse new coverage to children because of a pre-existing medical problem, said Karen Lightfoot, spokeswoman for the House Energy and Commerce Committee, one of the main congressional panels that wrote the bill Obama signed into law Tuesday.
However, if a child is accepted for coverage, or is already covered, the insurer cannot exclude payment for treating a particular illness, as sometimes happens now. For example, if a child has asthma, the insurance company cannot write a policy that excludes that condition from coverage.

That’s because nobody who voted for the bill actually read the damned thing.
Yep all those people that thought they will get immediate care are in for a surprise.
You notice how all the little tricks to bring the bill uner a trillion are now comming to light.
“Looks like they have made some BIG mistakes.”
No? Really? My goodness, who would have thought?!
I had a really happy thought. Yesterday was the day Obama took ownership of America’s ills. Up until now, it was Bush’s fault. Everything. But, I’m pretty sure that’s not going to sell anymore. Sure, they’ll try it, but even the stupid American public won’t buy that line after yesterday.
See, there is a bright side.
The whole point of this bill was to simply get the camel’s nose into the tent, they’ll work out the details later.
this little “fix” wouldn’t happen to affect the cost estimate for this bill, would it?
If they found one big mistake in less than 24 hours, how many more will they find this week? Or this year?
“We have to pass it so we can find out what’s in it!”
By the time they get done “fixing” the bill Ryan will be proven right about the costs.
Expect to see a lot of these mistakes. Then expect to see the American people get very, very mad as details start to be known.
OH yeah. Garbage in garbage out from the CBO.
Democrats own this baby. And all the hidden costs need to be hung around their heads in NOV.
I think the House has to now sneak in about $300-$400 BILLON in “fixes” they promised the doctor/hospital lobbies, whose MEDICARE reimbursement goes down starting 1 October- as I recall
I think only a total collapse of the ecooy is going to get the attention of Americans.
We are seeing the people that live in the fairy tale world of Government is my friend, destroying the Health care system of this Country.
And just think what is going to happen when people start going to docs not getting FREE treatment and then turning around and sueinf the Docs.
Exactly, they just kept adding to it.
Oh yes. Wait till the idiot class figures out NOTHING is free. And they have been HAD..bigtime.
IMHO - Most likely done on purpose, to try to embarass the Republican Senate if they don't vote to amend it.
IF they vote to amend, the bill has to go back to the House.
Repent at leisure.
The goal with this unconstitutional legislation is to destroy the insurers so the governemnt can take over what they call "health care". The feds are after the cash flow. Once that the government controls things they will "ration" who gets cared for and how. Hoping that more people die thus reducing the unfunded liabilities the feds have with social security, etc.
Obama and his people are creating their own death camps. Today, we are all Jews.
Ryan is right!
