The Stupak Health Care Act?
3/21/2010 | self

Forgive the vanity.

If Rep Stupak is stupid enough to think this thing will not cover abortion I think we ought to name the bill after him. I think we ought to refer to the bill as the Stupak Health Care Act. Attach his name to the thing that will be a big step in the destruction of freedom.

If House members act on the legislation today, they will vote on the Senate bill first and then the reconciliation bill. If approved, the Senate bill will go to the president, the reconciliation bill to the Senate. Democratic leaders in the Senate say they have enough votes to pass the reconciliation bill, but DeMint and Graham say it won’t make it to Obama’s desk.

Republicans will raise a number of issues called points of order on procedures they say violate Senate rules, the senators said, which require 60 votes to set aside, one more than Democrats have.

The plan is to force the reconciliation bill back to the House for renegotiation with Republican input, Graham said. The alternative for Democrats is to accept the Senate bill as written as the new law, DeMint and Graham said.

Republicans want to eliminate some additions in the reconciliation bill such as a provision to revamp the college student-loan program, Graham said, and forcing the Senate bill into law would accomplish that. If Democrats refuse to negotiate new legislation and the Senate bill remains the law, Republicans believe that will give help them get Republicans elected in November.

Clyburn said the plan is just another Republican stalling tactic. No one is certain how it will play out, but as South Carolina Attorney General Henry McMaster said, it’s sure to be an interesting week for the Senate parliamentarian.

I’ve never bought into the argument that Stupak would do anything but fold like a cheap suit on this. We saw what “moderate Democrats” were capable of on Christmas eve.

Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on ME!

The GOP should be sitting with this guy right now showing how they will offer real reform a year from now, fully Pro-life, and will actually help fix the problem.

He is not “stupid” enough to believe this. If he votes yes, it will be because he will have willfully decieved himself. He is a real socialist who happens to be committed to the sanctity of life, as oxymoronic as that may appear. He must be really tortured.

Of all the Dems to pick on, why are you picking on Stupak? FYI, he’s a NO vote.

He’s not a NO until the vote! Besides, he is too wishy washy on his positions. He still supports the legislation overall. Still a NO for him in August Primary.

At this point, I agree. However, if he folds, he is near the top of the list of those I will work against. If he folds, he will have played the role of Judas. Most of the others are simply Roman foot soldiers. Let's see if he holds out.

Demkicker,

I am saying IF he votes for it. We are hearing mixed signals about how he will vote, but I hope he votes no. If he does it will be a courageous thing to do. If he votes yes it will be a cowardly thing to do.

On this there is no middle ground.

Stupak should ask Obama to issue the E.O. before the vote.

Stupak has set himself up as the deciding vote on this Abortion of our Liberties. If he caves in over a promise from Obama to make some kind of unconstitutional executive order vetoing a provision of this monstrosity, then Stupak is either the stupidest person on the planet or on a level of evil equal to or greater than Obama or Pelosi.

His name shall be forever linked to the destruction of the America I grew up in.
