Americans may still be spared the pain of ObamaCare.
At the time of writing, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi doesnt have enough votes to pass the Senates version of health reform. So some House liberals are considering a trick that would allow them to pass a rule that says their bill passed without actually having a vote in the House on that bill.
Its not a sign of strength when a bills supporters are already searching for plausible deniability -- when theyre aiming to pass a bill yet campaign that they didnt vote for it. Remember how well John Kerrys hair-splitting claim, I actually did vote for the $87 billion before I voted against it played on the trail.
Clearly, many House liberals realize their bill is overwhelmingly unpopular. So how did it get to this point? One man wants to credit (or blame) FOX News.
After 14 months of Foxs relentless pounding of President Obamas idea of sweeping reform, the latest Gallup poll shows opinion running 48 to 45 percent against the current legislation, wrote Howell Raines in the Outlook section of The Washington Post. Raines, former executive editor of The New York Times, claims this pressure has moved mountains.
The American people and many of our great modern presidents have been demanding major reforms to the health-care system since the administration of Teddy Roosevelt, he writes. Yet what were seeing today is a matter of Fox turning reality on its head with, among other tactics, its endless repetition of its uber-lie: The American people do not want health-care reform.
Well, first, opposition is no lie.
Every credible poll shows ObamaCare is underwater with Americans. And support has been steadily eroding as the process has gone on. It seems reasonable to assume thats because people have had time to find out whats in the bill and what it might cost, and theyre trending against it. No wonder Obama keeps setting false deadlines and claiming we need reform, right now!
Second, its amazing to claim that FOX News, which has about 2.6 million viewers in prime time, has somehow swayed the opinions of 297 million Americans who didnt watch it. Thats effective messaging.
Meanwhile, as FOX has (in Raines view) been working against the president, its also carried his countless addresses live. Obama can not only go over the heads of FOX News executives, he can co-opt their equipment and use it to deliver his message whenever he schedules a joint address to Congress, a prime time news conference, a campaign-style event in Ohio, and so forth. And hes only lost support when hes done so.
Raines seems confused on an important point: While Americans may well want reform, they dont want ObamaCare. They like bits of the bill, but oppose the scope and expense when all those pieces are stitched together.
Consider it this way: As a Washington Capitals fan, Im a big fan of Alex Ovechkin. Yet I was rooting against him in the Olympics when he played for Russia. My support for a single player didnt translate into support for his entire team.
Finally, Raines writes that FOX News has sold a falsified image of the professional standards that developed in American newsrooms and university journalism departments in the last half of the 20th century. Hed apparently like to see the network behave more like his beloved former employer, the Times.
Heres how that papers Sunday magazine framed a recent question to Rep. Paul Ryan, R-Wisc.: Your Road Map, we should explain, is a somewhat alarming document that proposes, in 600-plus pages, erasing the federal deficit by radically restricting the governments role in social programs like Social Security and Medicare.
Ryans draft is a comprehensive plan to deal with Americas fiscal crisis. Indeed, it calls for big changes to federal entitlement programs. But the fact is that these programs are going to change, no matter what happens. Our government is simply making trillions of dollars worth of promises it cant afford to keep.
It would be better to do things the way Ryan wants to -- make changes to the programs now and change their course -- rather than wait until they run out of money and the federal government has to revoke the benefits its promised.
What is truly somewhat alarming is listening to the president go on FOX News and attempt to explain a health care plan when even he isnt certain whats in it. The more we learn about the bill -- on FOX and elsewhere -- the less we like it. It will be interesting to see if lawmakers can grasp that.
Note the walking-distance metro stop. Park anywhere and ride the metro in.
Or drive around the Capitol and gridlock traffic while honking thousand of car horns.
What I find hard to comprehend is that these Democrats think that by voting for the Senate bill through a tricky parliamentary procedure somehow it will hurt them less politically. Are there dum Americans out there that actually won’t get it?!
No, it is the exact bill the Senate voted on on Christmas Eve that the House will be approving, Louisiana purchase, etc. The bill eliminating those things is attached and would have to be approved by the Senate. HOld your breath.
As I was saying, if they thumb their nose at the rules and tell lies to get the ‘plan’ passed, what makes anyone think the plan will be administered honorably or efficiently?
Hmmm. Good point. I suppose that remains to be seen.
There might be a few dumb ones hiding here and there... how would we know for sure?

That really doesn’t answer my question because if the Democrats think they’ll steal the next election with Soros’ help, why the tricky procedure? Also, to steal it, it has to be close and I believe the Democrats are going to be slapped upside the head in November...not close.
I’m not referring to dum liberals...that’s a given. I’m talking about the pool of people against this bill.
Well, if this bill passes, I will feel like the current congress has forcibly raped and sodomized every taxpayer in the country. I have never felt so ashamed of this country.
To me it explains a lot about why so many Dims are voting lemming-like on Obama's HellCare.
They know that campaign money will be in short supply in their next elections. They know the power of political advertising and having the means to pay for it. They know that Soros money and left-wing organizations money will be cut off to them if they don't vote correctly. They know the short memory-span of their voters.
Therefore, they're willing to gamble on casting a wildly-unpopular vote while selling out their country at the same time.
I hope everyone reads the link to this stunning article you provided above.

The people have spoken and ARE speaking, loud and clear, that they do NOT WANT THIS BILL.
Hussein’s cultists better not ignore them.
“Are there dum Americans out there that actually wont get it?!”
Yes, many Americans are extremely dumb. Many Americans just want this stuff to go away so they can concentrate on American Idol, March Madness, etc.

Obama spent last week campaigning for health care reform, at one point getting some college-age fans worked up about all the free stuff free preventive care and free checkups and so forth they would receive if his version of health care reform passed.
TRI CARE FOR LIFE This from a google search:

This option would help reduce the costs of TFL, as well as costs for Medicare, by introducing minimum out-of pocket requirements for beneficiaries. Under this option, TFL would not cover any of the first $525 of an enrollees cost-sharing liabilities for calendar year 2011 and would limit coverage to 50 percent of the next $4,725 in Medicare cost sharing that the beneficiary incurred. (Because all further cost sharing would be covered by TFL, enrollees could not pay more than $2,888 in cost sharing in that year.) http://www.cbo.gov/ftpdocs/99xx/doc9925/12-18-HealthOptions.pdf

Remember they are all being offered BRIBES for their votes. Ask them how much their bribe price is.
The National Republican Congressional Committee has published a target list on health care. In addition to continuing to contact the five Tennessee Democrat Congressmen, you can go http://www.votervoice.net/link/clickthrough/ext/94697.aspx to contact some of these targets. Much of the talk following Obamas announcement has focused on how to defeat this second bill through reconciliation, but that is misleading because the first step to defeating Obamacare is not by concentrating on defeating the fixer bill but by defeating the Senate bill in the House when it goes to the floor for an up-or-down vote on Thursday, March 18th.

And here are toll-free numbers we can use to call any Senators or Reps.
At the first number below you must wait through a tape recording urging you to tell your Rep or Senator to vote yes for the health care bill. Just hang on and when the recording is over, you will get the Capitol operator. Just ask for your Rep or Senators office. Then you will either talk to an aid or have the chance to leave a message for him/her to vote NO on the health care bill.
When you use the second number and the Capitol operator comes on, just ask for your Rep or Senators office. Every time I use this number I get the Rep or Senators answer machine, so it may be set up that way all the time...to go to their answer machine. Either way you can leave a message to vote NO on the health care bill!
We need to use these toll free numbers that have been set up for the health care/ BO supporters and illegals to use! After all they are FREE!

The people I know that support this are driven by one overriding reason -
they don’t want to have to make insurance/healthcare decisions for themselves.
