I had twelve years of nuns in my life. The nuns who schooled me were not like the demented lesbians in this piece.

The Religious Sisters of Mercy HATED Communism. There were endless lectures about the evil things going on in Communist Russia, where women had to work at jobs and their children were raised in state daycare. How the people had no say in government and how the press could only print lies. This was mostly pre-Vatican II and then all the young nuns in my high school went hippie and defied their order. Many left, but the old gourd stood fast and worked harder to make sure that the teenaged girls in their care were protected and educated. It was a strange time, but I am so glad for those sour old nuns and the sense of purpose they instilled in me. Funny, I would get a withering look and an big fat F for this post!

Another useless fact, nuns LOVE LOVE LOVE baseball. We always listened to the World Series on transistor radio in class. It was always the highlight of the year. Boy, do I miss those days.

There is a nun at my children’s school who is with the Sisters of Mercy. She’s Irish to boot, from a large Catholic family. She’s a beloved part of the school, but you don’t mess with Sister Mary Sarto, LOL. She’s been there long enough that she’s teaching the kids of some of her former students :)
