A pregnant bride-to-be has been killed in a horror crash on the way to her Las Vegas wedding.
Kristen Kay Taylor was killed when the car she was driving was rear-ended by a truck in a 13-car pileup near Cedar City in the US state of Utah late last week, the Salt Lake Tribune reports.
Ms Taylor, 25, was driving her Kia Spectra with fiance Gregory Bennin on Interstate 15 and slowed down when the truck in front of her crashed into several cars during a snowstorm.
Just moments later another truck ploughed into the rear of the couples car, smashing it into the truck in front and killing Ms Taylor, while Mr Bennin lost part of his left arm in the crash and remains in hospital.
The pair was due to marry later that day, and a Facebook posting from her mother Beth confirmed Kristen was pregnant.
"The Lord is blessing this family with the most beautiful gift he can give. I'M GOING TO BE A GRANDMA FOR THE VERY FIRST TIME! My daughter Kristen is pregnant! I ask for your prayers," Beth wrote on her Facebook page earlier this month.
Neighbours who visited Mr Bennin in hospital said he was "devastated".
Erin Winter, an outreach director at the pair's church in South Salt Lake, described Ms Taylor's death as shocking.
"She's been part of our (church) family for a long time," Mr Winter told the Tribune.
"We are still grieving her loss."
Ms Taylor's final status update on Facebook expressed her excitement of getting married.
"Wow! I can't believe that my wedding is only 4 weeks from today!!!" the message read.
Her death is the second recent tragedy to hit the Taylor family, with Kristen's brother dying from an illness just before Christmas.
Whoa. What a tragedy-struck family. Last Christmas, they have lost a son. Now they have lost a daughter and a grandchild and have left a future son-in-law bereaved.
Prayers for them.
I am assuming the baby was lost, too.
Lord have mercy.
Sad. RIP.
Oh this is so very sad...(sigh)...Lord.
Prayers for the family.
Nice looking couple. Prayers for the fiancee and her family.
Gracious Father send your love and comfort to this family. Make your presence known to them in extra measure.
Going to be????? She ALREADY is!!
What an awful shame! RIP and prayers for the families.
Sep 20, 1982, my best childhood friend died on the way to pick up his best man for the wedding.
Peter Montigny. Age 23
I know exactly what this family feels.
SHUT UP! Is that REALLY necessary!?
QUite the shame for both families
I did note the “US state of Utah”
I thought all these years (well since 1912 nayway) the lower 48 were all States. Is this a Brit thing?
I drove that road many times, Las Vegas to central UT.
Once you get to the drop off just South of Cedar CIty, you rarely see snow. Drove it one winter time in a VW Safari (Thing) everything iced up even with both heaters on full.
I guess folks just don’t like to slow down...
I concur with your observation about the area south of Cedar City. It is rare to have much snow in that part of the trip. I generally don't like to make the trip during the winter, but I was working on an extended business trip in San Diego. I wanted to spend time with my family for Thanksgiving and Christmas.
OMG! I never knew about that. I am so saddened. My sister knew you guys from class of 77’.
Ever spend a wedding presnt $50 on drinks for just yourself in 1982?
$50 in 1982 bought a LOT of alcohol...and I didn’t even get drunk, just cried all night
Oh, Wait, you mean you never knew he died???
He was going to marry Lorraine Gaffney!
What?? WHY are you offended? It’s true! Besides, it doesn’t hurt to remind people that a baby is a baby! And, yes, it IS necessary.
