BOISE, Idaho — Idaho House members are taking aim at the federal government's authority to regulate guns made and sold in Idaho.

The measure approved 52-17 along party lines Tuesday declares that firearms manufactured and sold in the state should not be subject to federal buyer background checks and dealer licensing rules.

Should have posted this a few days ago. Add Idaho to the list of States moving in this direction.

And we have gun makers here:

CheyTac - Makers of the .408 Intervention (and other long range rifles)

Have two others, but one is parts for Ruger, the other (can't remember their name) just started a year ago with a .22lr so far only.

does not apply to:

(a) A firearm that cannot be carried and used by one (1) person;
(b) A firearm that has a bore diameter greater than one and onehalf (1 1/2) inches and that uses smokeless powder, not black powder, as a propellant;
(c) Ammunition with a projectile that explodes using an explosion of chemical energy after the projectile leaves the firearm; or
(d) A firearm that discharges two (2) or more rounds of ammunition with one (1) activation of the trigger or other firing device.

Bummer (d) still says no full auto :(. Oh well.

I've seen their products for sale at shops in Pocatello and Idaho Falls. Good quality. I have a bunch of MKII and MKIII pistols. My wife is a big fan and collector. The pistol barrels are very nice. They made an attempt at 17M2 barrels, but it never succeeded. Getting the right mix of bolt mass and spring is difficult in the MKII.

Once a number of states have done this maybe then they can work out some kind of reciprocity agreements. States out flanking the FedGov could be the wave of the future.

If you don't have to carry it too far, I can see a tripod mounted M2 .50cal firing sabot ammunition here ;)

Semi-auto, of course

'(Idaho) House approves firearms freedom bill'

Sweeeeet!

Idaho joins a growing list of states doing this and like the others will get a nasty letter from Eric Holder and his DoJ saying 'Stop'.

The only problem for Holder is that the number of U.S. Marshals he has are limited and most Marshals now play Jailer & Bailiff at U.S. Courthouses. They ain't "riding the range for outlaws and rustlers" like Clint Eastwood in Hang 'Em High. So after a while he won't have enough to go after all these states.

Then again, I guess Holder could always subcontract this extra work to the SEIU or ACORN.

(Snork!) That phrase made my day.

No crew-served ordnance, hmm? Pity.

I wonder if the bill would also apply to accessories like those provided by GEMTECH which is also in Boise. That would be very cool to be able to buy a suppressor without all the federal rigamarole. I was considering a move to Idaho for retirement. This kind of thing really sweetens the deal. My nephew lives out in Boise. He refers to Idaho as "FA" or "Free America," a term that was originally used in the movie Red Dawn with the Late Patrick Swayze.

What? Idaho is still going to the let the feds mess with our right to buy and possess cannons?

The sheriff in Bannock county is pretty quick about doing the normal ATF paperwork. We have class III FFLs in town. You can ogle, handle and purchase full auto and suppressed firearms right here. There is a guy in town that built up a "Rat Patrol" style truck with belt-fed machine gun mounted. All functional. All legal. The new bill saves time time/effort on items manufactured inside Idaho.

I have considered doing the paperwork for an SBR based on a T/C Encore frame, rifle stock and 15" barrels. The frame has to be engraved to spec and you have to do the paperwork. The S&W 460 Mag pistol barrel would be a good selection. I have the rifle and pistol barrels in the caliber.

I have the S&W 460 in the 5" barrel. Love that gun but it's a kicker. I don't think I'd like to offer up my shoulder for such tenderizing treatment. Everytime I fire full house loads in the 'Smith, I can feel the muzzle blast in my teeth. Still, I always wanted a handgun that would drop a Sasquatch or a T-Rex in it's tracks. My wife asked me: What on earth do you need such a gun for? I told her that welllll, we COULD be at the mall here in South Florida and encounter a rampaging POLAR Bear. Unlikely, I'll admit. But it could happen.... and she had no comebacks.... That's my gal.
