Something smells. This fellow committed not crime, already owned guns, and bought a couple more, so he can be forcibly required to undergo mental evaluation? Is there any downside for his accusers?

Reading between the lines, it sounds like there may have been a fairly aggressive interchange with his employer and the employer was concerned, and maybe rightly so. I’m inclined to give this the benefit of the doubt.

There has GOT to be more to this. The cops hooked him up for what he MIGHT have done? That's "brain police" stuff.

I'd have hated as much as the next guy to see him pop a gasket and do something stupid but there would have to have been threats or calls from his friends and neighbors or something to warrant this action.

AH yes mind crimes we think you are about to do something bad,so we will protect you...

Concerns about an Oregon Department of Transportation employee who purchased several guns after being placed on leave prompted law enforcement across Southern Oregon to step in.

Negotiators and a SWAT team from Medford police safely took a man — whose name wasn’t released — into protective custody Monday morning in the 500 block of Effie Street, Medford police said in a news release.

He was taken to Rogue Valley Medical Center for a mental-health evaluation.

The man recently had been placed on administrative leave from his job and was “very disgruntled,” the news release

This doesn’t sound legal. I smell a law suit.

Well... he’s got no reason to be disgruntled anymore. He’s going to be able to retire very wealthy now.

10 million from ODOT and another 15 or 20 million from the city police ought to do it. Maybe they’ll think before doing it to anybody else.

In two days, the man bought a Heckler & Koch .45-caliber universal self-loading handgun, a Walther .380-caliber handgun and an AK-47 assault rifle, Medford police Lt. Bob Hansen said.

Perhaps he got the severance pay and decided to spend it on some fun stuff?

This is where our government is heading. I am kind of wondering what would have happened if he had stood his ground in his own home and waited for them to commit themselves to a dynamic entry, him taking out at least one or more SWAT team members, with the rest of the gang shooting him 150 times or so - all to prevent a crime law enforcement that hadn’t taken place?

The police state is here now.

dead corpse & from occupied ga, you two will likely find this article of interest in that a man was arrested due to potential crimes he could commit due to recent purchase of firearms.

What is this ? A combination of Heydrich’s Schutzhaft and Andropov’s use of mental hospitals? The guy legally purchases firearms, and the cops pick him up for a mental evaluation? Hope he sues the sh*t out of them when he gets sprung.

I read this in the local paper and decided not to post it, because the reporter is so stupid that whether the “AK-47” was fully automatic or a semi-auto reproduction was not specified.

If it was semi-auto, then the guy just had a nice gun buying weekend.

If fully automatic, then one wonders about whether he had a federal license, or how he got his hands on a hot gun, how the government would know about that, etc.

The guy just bought a bunch of guns. Legally, for all we know. And they locked him up?

This Stinks.....

Awaiting further developments.

Unless the story is not revealing all the information here, I would say the authorities up in Medford Oregon are in deep sh*t.

Never, ever, ever buy multiple firearms with a single transaction.

Amendment 5:
No person shall be held to answer for a capital, or otherwise infamous crime, unless on a presentment or indictment of a Grand Jury, except in cases arising in the land or naval forces, or in the Militia, when in actual service in time of War or public danger; nor shall any person be subject for the same offense to be twice put in jeopardy of life or limb; nor shall be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself, nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation.

This man was not charged with a crime. He was detained, confined, and his property seized. There was no trial, no hearing, and therefore, no due process. I hope he sues, and I hope he has a good lawyer.

I get television/radio news out of Medford. People are really worked up over this one. Perhaps the police were being ‘proactive’. Perhaps they were simply overreaching.
One thing for sure, sanctuary state Oregon, Medford in particular wouldn’t come down on known Latino gang members like this.

I dunno. If the guy was taken in for evaluation, that sounds pretty reasonable, especially if he made some obvious but veiled threats.

I would rather this guy's gun purchases be delayed until he's cooler-headed, than to have to read about another disgruntled gunman that prompts more anti-gun legislation.

I’d like to know more about this

can’t say I blame cops for checking out a pissed off fired guy who goes out and buys several guns right after his dismissal especially if he made public threats

but on the other hand...this is the epitome of slippery slope

btw...they did more than just talk to him...they hauled him in
