House Rules Chairwoman Louise Slaughter is prepping to help usher the healthcare overhaul through the House and potentially avoid a direct vote on the Senate overhaul bill, the chairwoman said Tuesday.

Slaughter is weighing preparing a rule that would consider the Senate bill passed once the House approves a corrections bill that would make changes to the Senate version.

Slaughter has not taken the plan to Speaker Pelosi as Democrats await CBO scores on the corrections bill. "Once the CBO gives us the score we'll spring right on it," she said. . . .

This is psychotic. Dems can simply make their own rules for passing bills?

Yep - in the county next to mine... she is such an idiot!

At a meeting with a guy from Rep Chris Lee’s office on Sunday, it was brought out that health care will NOT cover dental anyway. BUT - WEEZEE’s constituents on welfare CAN get dentures - better dental coverage than ours! We have a $1500 annual max - you can’t get dentures for twice that amount. we are the nanny state.

Oh - I propose a RULE: No new rules until the next administration!

She wants to have a vote on the ‘fixes’ to the Senate bill, and if the ‘fix’ passes, they will consider the Senate bill to be passed, without having to vote on the actual Senate bill.

Therefore, none of the vulnerable Dims will be on record as having voted for it.

It is an insane plan, and there ought to be a way for someone with standing to take the issue to court. The USSC should have original jurisdiction, in my non-lawyer opinion.

Also, the Senate would still have to vote on the ‘fix’, but there is no more guarantee they will approve it as the House Dims have now without the Slaughter Rule.

And, if they do it this way, as soon as the Speaker signs the Senate bill as having been approved by the House, it can still be shuttled over to Obama and he could sign it and be done with it.

and since this would force the Senate to pass the “fix” first, it would have to be through reconciliation since the GOP has 41 votes. This will open the door to endless parliamentary appeals over what is germain to the budget. It also opens the windows to unlimited amendments, which may still be coming to the floor on election day.

I think Obama will sign the Senate bill at some point in time after the House approves it (whether by Slaughter Rule or not). He will claim he has to sign it in order to avoid losing the historic moment, or some other claptrap mantra.

Business as usual out on the left-front: if you can’t win playing by the rules, change the rules. Or ignore them.

Let me get this straight:

1: No real vote of the current Senate Bill that is awaiting a vote in the House; which has the Cornhusket kickback, Cadillac tax, etc.
2: House will vote on the items that the Senate Democrats will shove through reconciliation; fixing the Cadillac tax, etc.
3: The “Reconciliation” will then be have been voted on in both Houses.
4: Based on Slaughter rule this has the effect of making the original Senate bill law plus the fixes through reconciliation eventhough the House never voted on (1) the original Senate bill.

Their problem is that at least a couple of the ‘fixes’ that House members require are anathema to a majority of Senate Dims. The Senate will force those items out of the reconciliation bill, thereby hosing the House Dims.

And if that weren’t enough of a problem, if the Senate diddles too long on the reconciliation bill, Obama will lose patience and demand that Pelosi send him the House-approved Senate bill for him to sign into law.

Checkmate.
