Dutch plan to let healthy elderly people commit suicide
The Telegraph ^ | 3/10/2010 | Bruno Waterfield in Brussels

Healthy elderly people who are simply "tired of living" could be allowed to end their lives with a lethal injection under new euthanasia laws being debated by the Dutch parliament.

The country's MPs will discuss the "right to die" proposals after a campaign forced a debate by collecting over 100,000 signatures in support.

The influential Dutch "Right to Die" campaign, active since 1973, has launched new "vrijwillig levenseinde", or "of free will", demands to extend euthanasia beyond assisted suicide for terminally ill people.

The group has proposed training non-medical staff to administer a lethal injection to healthy people over the age of 70 who "consider their lives complete" and want to die.

Under the plans, the suicide assistants would be certified and would be required to make sure that patients were not temporarily depressed and had a "heartfelt and enduring desire" to die.

Marie-Jose Grotenhuis, the campaign's spokeswoman, said: "We've been overwhelmed by the amount of reactions, especially because people took it so seriously and reactions were mostly positive."

Euthanasia was legalised in Holland in 2002 and the new proposals have been backed by the majority of people in Dutch opinion polls.

The Royal Dutch Medical Association is divided over calls to extend euthanasia beyond those suffering from painful terminal illnesses and has set up a committee to examine the proposals.

Sander Hofman, the association's spokesman, said: "For instance, a doctor probably has a role in easing the suffering of a person who is refusing to eat or drink."

Several European countries, including neighbouring Belgium, allow euthanasia for terminally ill people who wish to die. Britain and France allow terminally ill people to refuse medical treatment but stop short of allowing active assisted suicide.

The Dutch legalisation for euthanasia for the terminally ill was preceded by decades of negotiations that

What they miss, is that a “right” to commit suicide, soon becomes quiet pressure to do so, when others might view your life as not having any more use.

The day will quickly arrive that a person who is in their late 80s, and needing some assistance but refusing to commit suicide, will be viewed as greedy and selfish.

Instead, the Dutch should pass a law that would make the crime of attempting suicide punishable by death.

And how long is it going to be till they’re encouraged and then forced to end their lives.

For all the deathbots who advocate for murder in the form of assisted suicide, this will be a situation to watch, although it’s almost too much to hope they’ll learn.

Three key words there, all of which have long been negotiable when coming from socialist dictatorships. “Old, Healthy and Let”, translate into “help, enemies, burdens and malcontents into the showers”. That kind of caught on in Berlin a few years back.

These toll free arrangements were set up by Obamuniust organizations to support (pause for sticking out tongue) “health” “care” “reform.” Use them! After all, they are free! . At the first number you must wait through a brief Obamunist tape recording. Just hang on and when the recording is over, you will get the Capitol operator. Just ask for your Rep or Senator’s office. Then you will either talk to an aide or have the chance to leave a message for him/her to vote NO on the health care bill.

When you use the second number and the Capitol operator comes on, just ask for your Rep or Senator’s office

TRI CARE FOR LIFE This from a google search:

This option would help reduce the costs of TFL, as well as costs for Medicare, by introducing minimum out-of pocket requirements for beneficiaries. Under this option, TFL would not cover any of the first $525 of an enrollee’s cost-sharing liabilities for calendar year 2011 and would limit coverage to 50 percent of the next $4,725 in Medicare cost sharing that the beneficiary incurred. (Because all further cost sharing would be covered by TFL, enrollees could not pay more than $2,888 in cost sharing in that year.) http://www.cbo.gov/ftpdocs/99xx/doc9925/12-18-HealthOptions.pdf

By Rick Maze - Staff writer, Oct 7, 2009

Tricare fee increases imposed last week by the Defense Department will be repealed by a provision of the compromise 2010 defense authorization bill unveiled Wednesday by House and Senate negotiators.

The fee increases were announced on Sept. 30 and took effect on Oct. 1, but the defense bill, HR 2647, includes a provision barring any fee increases until the start of fiscal 2011.

Retired Army Maj. Gen. Bill Matz, president of the National Association for Uniformed Services, said the announcement of fee increases was shocking considering that the Obama administration promised earlier this year to hold off on any new fee Tricare fee increases until fiscal 2011.

“President Obama and DoD assured NAUS and the entire military family earlier this year that there would rightly be no increases in any Tricare fees” in fiscal 2010, Matz said. “We took them at their word, and I can’t believe that a co-pay increase like this was allowed to go forward,” he added.

"Healthy elderly people who are simply "tired of living""

Or who are made to feel guilty for using limited medical resources that could go to their children and grandchildren.

Someone I know had a family member try to starve themselves to death (age in the 60s) because they were severely depressed. Went to a nutritionally oriented neuropsychiatrist who was able to turn this around. Incidentally, they have discovered that vitamin D deficiency can cause depression, especially “winter depression” They now say people should have from 1,000 to 2,000 units a day instead of only 400.

Everytime I read about the Dutch “progress” of this sick expedient view of life I think back to the great poem of Dylan Thomas, “Do not go gentle into that good night”.

Man’s duty is to live and even though our “quality of life” may be deminished it is our duty to fight for that last breath. The hereafter is not to be feared and it is a “good night” but our Christian duty is to live and help others to live.

Perhaps a Dutch Dylan Thomas will write, “oh how I hate to see you suffer, make me comfortable by dying” but that does not show love as Thomas’ poem did.

Yes. There are nations that already allow the INVOLUNTARY euthanasia of minors.
