Iran has test fired a new anti-ship missile – Nour – from its first indigenously-built guided missile destroyer Jamaran in the Persian Gulf, according to a news report.

The surface-to-surface missile was launched on Tuesday and successfully hit its target at a distance of 100 kilometers, Press TV reported.

The country plans to develop the missile further by extending its range by up to 300 kilometers, the report said.

The Jamaran warship, from which the missile was test-launched, was commissioned in the Iranian Navy in February this year.

The multi-mission destroyer is equipped with several anti-ship and surface-to-air missiles. It is also fitted with modern radars and electronic warfare equipment.

With the successful launch of Nour missile, the Navy now plans to deploy Jamaran in peaceful missions in international waters, the channel said.

“New Iran destroyer test fires missile
First Iranian-built warship Jamaran destroyer successfully tests surface-to-surface ‘Nour’ missile”

News agencies
Published: 03.09.10, 17:24 / Israel News

SNIPPET: “A newly inaugurated Iranian destroyer test fired a surface-to-surface missile in the Gulf on Tuesday, Iran’s Fars news agency reported.

According to the IRNA news agency the anti-ship missile, dubbed Nour, or Light, destroyed its target.

The test is considered part of an assessment of the ship’s capabilities. The missile has been used regularly in war games over the past years.”

SNIPPET: “Fars said the Jamaran destroyer, the first Iranian-built warship of its type, launched last month at a ceremony attended by Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, successfully test fired the Nour missile.

“The destroyer’s missile system was tested and the firing of the Nour surface-to-surface missile towards the intended target was successfully conducted,” the semi-official news agency said.”

It seems like almost every day we're hearing more and more about Iran's testing new weapons and stepping up its military arsenal.

I wonder if Obama has our Navy and Air Force commanders tied up in a no shoot situation.

Obama probably doesn’t have a clue one way or the other. Gates and Mullen decided against going into Iran several years ago. ...very frustrating, seeing what’s been going on in Asia and the Middle East over the past decade or so. Special interests don’t want oil going up more now (freight fuel, etc.).
