"Abu Dhabi is future base for News Corp: Murdoch

News Corp chief Rupert Murdoch announced on Tuesday that the Gulf emirate of Abu Dhabi is to become the headquarters of his global media empire in the Middle East.

Addressing some 400 delegates at the opening of the Abu Dhabi Media Summit, Murdoch said his corporation had started out as a small Australian firm to become a US-based international company that employs 64,000 people.

"I have every confidence that Arab companies can do the same and more. I also believe that Abu Dhabi can lead the way."

Murdoch said News Corp would headquarter its Middle Eastern global online advertising operations in Abu Dhabi, and move a number of satellite television channels to the capital of the United Arab Emirates from Hong Kong.

"We will (also) establish a production office here for one of our documentary film-making companies," he said.

"When we look to the future, News Corporation is betting on the creative potential of the more than 335 million people who make up the Arab world," he added. "

But everyone says that Fox News is conservative because it is to the right of CNN-US. Bwahahahaha.

More of our media is being partially bought out by the Arab street. And articles and programs are getting shelved as a result.

For those unaware, NewsCorp IS the FOX network channel’s parent.

I’m glad to hear that Fox News corporate headquarters will be close to the action.

I guess that explains the attacks on Gert Wilders.

Where else would you expect him to locate his ME operations?

I’m always worried what will become of FOX news after the passing of Mr Murdock. And when I see stories like this I know it’s not just me.

Murdoch said News Corp would headquarter its Middle Eastern global online advertising operations in Abu Dhabi, and move a number of satellite television channels to the capital of the United Arab Emirates from Hong Kong.

I think it's unclear exactly what this means. It looks like more than it's Middle-Eastern division but less than the whole thing? Murdoch started in Australia, moved on to England, then moved on mostly to the U.S., but probably has a lot of offshore operations to avoid taxes. Now he's shifting at least one operation from Hong Kong to UAE? It is certainly discomforting the way he has flirted first with China and now with the Arabs. But I think a worse problem will arise when he dies. Who will take over?

“Abu Dhabi is future base for News Corp: Murdoch”

“... of his global media empire in the Middle East.”

I would add that in parentheses for the title,
otherwise it’s misleading.

A thousand prayers to Yahweh that their monuments of power sink into the deep dark depths of the ever flowing never stable foundation they build upon.

Oh and their goats are born blind as well.

Thanks. I will spend the rest of the afternoon trying to get that awful Andy Kaufman routine out of my head.

Am I missing something here? I don’t know why all the snarky comments.

As I read the article, all Murdoch said was that his MIDDLE EASTERN operation would be out of Abu Dhabi.

So what? His international HQ is in the US. Would you rather he run the middle eastern HQ out of Tehran? He needs a base of middle eastern operations somewhere, and Abu Dhabi seems as good a place as any to me.

His wife, Wendi, is only in her early 40's. I'm not certain of her politics but she was born in mainland China.

I guess that explains the attacks on Gert Wilders. [the ones broadcast on Fox recently]

Not according to some FReepers:

BuckeyeTexan to null and void

I know I’m absolutely right. That 5.7% ownership stake gets the holding company (and effectively the Saudi) a vote on News Corp shareholder issues. It doesn’t get him input into Fox News programming.

I have the second largest number of shares in an S-corp and I get to vote on shareholder issues. What I don’t get to do is tell the majority owner how to do business. I have an opinion, which, as you well know, I am happy to share even when it isn’t requested. An opinion doesn’t equate to input into corporate policy.

Say it ain’t so, nully. Tell me you don’t really believe that “Saudi-controlled” claim.

Tex

OTOH, Buckey can always be counted on to show up on any birth certificate thread and poo-poo any effort to establish 0bama's actual birth circumstances. Judge his bias and words accordingly...

We all know that doing business in the Arab world has 2 strings attached...
1... Slam Israel and the Jews at every opportunity.
2... Focus on Islam at every opportunity if you wish to get a multi-million dollar contract.

I am saddened to think FOX NEWS will end up like CNN Europe...Full of sh´-t.
