this is a true story.
recently purchased a used car from a local guy. he had purchased from someone in Calif. he hadn't registered locally. there are several emails before this one describing the hell that Calif is putting him through. this is only the latest.
=================================
So, I called the CA DMV 800 number. After getting through to them, they said the system didnt show that the duplicate title request had been processed. On the bright side, I asked if there were any reason that this duplicate title would be declined, and s/he said everything was fine with the car and its registration. I was told to call the Sacramento office where they do the processing. This number was busy, but eventually it rang through, I sat on hold for 15 mintes then got to talk to a person. This is the normal way it works with the CA DMV (think govt run 'healthcare'). The person I spoke with there said there was no way of knowing where the application was currently (think about trying to clear your 'healthcare' bill). S/he also said that the 72 hour special is no longer called the 72 hour special and is just called Rush Processing because they no longer guarantee 72 hour processing but that it is quicker than normal processing which can take 60 to as long as 90 days. (my comment here...think Govt run 'healthcare'...they claim 72 hours, then arbitrarily change it...the govt at work)
I mailed this to Xxxx on Thursday Feb 18 via priority mail and s/he got it on Saturday the 20th. S/he mailed this to the Sacramento office on Monday February 22 via first class mail which, in state should only be a few days but does have a worst case scenario of 7 business days (again...think govt run 'healthcare'). Worst case analysis would have this letter arriving at the CA DMV last Wednesday the 3rd. CA has made major budget cuts which is why the DMV is now closed on Fridays statewide ('healthcare'). In any case, she said if the rush processing people were behind a few weeks then it might take a few weeks. So, rush processing isnt the most accurate description for the service ('healthcare').
I also called ST State Employees Credit Union to verify that the cashiers check I'd sent had not yet been cashed which corroborates the information I got from the DMV.
That is the latest.
