Actually that was the corn cob handles in my pocket. I keep the meat thermometer strapped to my right leg.

I wonder if he has a concealed carry permit.

And was it IWB or OWB?

Hardly surprising. I remember when there used to be ushers in the theaters who would boot your ass if you were out of line. Nowadays? And Hollywood wonders why nobody goes out to movies anymore.

Actually, a meat thermometer might not be that bad as a close quarter weapon. You'd hold the dial against your palm with the spike protruding between your fingers and use it like a push dagger

G. Gordon Liddy had some interesting uses for a yellow No. 2 pencil.

Actually, it would probably come in handy after you've stabbed your victim.

Thermometers are common to fast food workers and mgrs. Many carry them in their shirt pocket. Was there a Church’s or Popeye’s nearby?

The meat thermometer was an imaginitive way of circumventing weapons laws. When guns and knives are prohibited, they can be carried legaly. Ball-peen hammers and screwdrivers are also very much favored by criminals. Remember what the ‘youths’ who menaced Bernard Goetz had on them?

The attacker carried because it wasn’t a weapon until it’s used as a weapon.

Cop catches you with a knife — you’re carrying a weapon. Cop catches you with a meat thermometer — you’re a guy with a meat thermometer.

I live in a no carry state and a buddy of mine carries a stainless ballpoint pen and has trained to use it as a weapon.

Actually, it’s not if the perp wanted to carry a weapon that didn’t (on its face) violate anti-knife laws...

Yup. Then again, in close quarters, it’s sometimes better to bring a knife than a gun to a knife fight...

Not a weapon, even though it is designed to pierce meat. Denial is a person's best friend when they want to carry 'something' but are afraid of getting patted down for a weapon.

This is less unusual than people might suspect.

Note, Bernie Goetz was shaken down by four youths with sharpened screwdrivers.
