The founding fathers had church services in the Supreme Court and Treasury buildings.
The church is gonna win this one. You can’t put people in government housing and then say, “since this is owned by the government, nothing religious can happen”. In this is the kernel of why that teacher was allowed to include God in his classroom posters. Just because someone is an employee of the state, you can’t take away their religious freedom.
That is because, as most of us here know, the phrase “wall of separation” is only a term used in someones letter to someone else. It is not part of the documents controlling how our government functions.
I'm sorry MaryAnn, you braindead moron, but it is YOU who are violating their First Amendment rights and it is YOU who should be thrown in jail for doing it.
I just sent a link to the former Texas Solicitor General. He’s won numerous cases like this.
The 1st says Congress is forbidden to pass a law that has anything to do with an establishment of religion or that prohibits the free exercise of religion.
Whatever law that funded the federal housing, if it effectively does either of those two things, is forbidden by the 1st.
Therefore, the LAW passed by Congress should be declared null and void if the Court rules that there is an establishment of religion or prohibition of free exercise.
Instead, the Court forbids religion, setting the 1st on its ear.
Which is more constitutional, a church service, or the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development?
Why do the media keep spreading this LIE? OH I forgot they are members of the Nazi and Communist brothers.
Incredible.
Bastards.
Every time I hear about this ridiculous example of church/state separation, I am amused by the great many election polls in churches. The hypocrisy is absolutely amazing!
Wait a minute . . .
. . . If the fact that the government pays for the housing means you can’t have a church service on the property . . .
. . . and if it explicitly unconstitutional for the government to prohibit the free exercise of religion . . .
. . . then doesn’t that mean that public housing, which is nowhere enumerated in the Constitution as a federal power, is therefore UNCONSTITUTIONAL?
Geeeeez .. I mean really .. why not invite the likes of Rev. Wright and let him bloviate to the people in public housing about how repressed they are by the white guy.
This insanity has got to stop!
Better story here. http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/APStories/stories/D9E7V4NO0.html (even the libs were running from this one)
And update here

After the anti-Christian idiot MaryAnn (note lack of space in first name) Russ apparently learned about Section 1984.
Once again, lefties are holding so fast to the establishment clause that they don’t even consider the free exercise clause.
Typical.
Just like they see militia in the second amendment, yet totally miss the part about the right of the people.
Uh, churches of various denominations have been holding mass/services in elementary and middle schools across the country for decades. Exactly what is the difference in this case?
