Democrats want to ruin a system that's the envy of the world

President Obama and congressional Democrats are ramping up efforts to ram through a government takeover of the health care system. The vast majority of Americans are opposed to this bureaucratic power grab because they know government will do what it always does, which is increase cost while lowering efficiency and service. In case there's any doubt, all you have to do is look to our neighbor to the north for tales of doom and gloom that come with nationalized health care.

Canada provides a clear warning about government involvement in health care as even its most prominent citizens come to America for important procedures. Just last month, Danny Williams, the premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, crossed the border to have a heart valve replaced in the United States.

Uh, we don’t have to wait for them to jump the line.

They’ve already exempted themselves from the magnificent system they are trying to put into place. The Republicans tried, and it failed on a pure party line vote.

The health care thing will work itself out if left alone. Premiums will increase to the point where employers will no longer cover dependents, and evenutally no longer the employees themselves. The health insurance industry will then lower prices so individuals (well, some of us anyway) can afford our own policies.

Good luck with that. There are three key components to cost:

1. Provider Price
2. # Services/Utilization
3. Administrative expense

85% of the issue is #1 and #2. Much of that is delivered in an oligopolistic local market where everyone fawns all over the oligopolists (hospitals and their cradle to grave control of a huge percentage of all services delivered.)
